>Syriana is a good provocative movie; I'd reccomend it!.
Well.....really if you think about it afterwards it seems provocative for like 5 mins and then you forget about it.....everyone knows that the stato government has a history of assasinating anyone who gets in their way..from Kwame Nkrumah and Moises Tshombe in the congo to Che Guevara.....still, it was shocking to actually see it being suggested on screen in such detail...that took balls of steel...but afterwards i was like...well.....they've been doing this for ages so ......
Another overrated movie getting hyped for the wrong reasons....just like Crash..which i also hated....
Then that middle eastern kid who became a suicide bomber...are we really expected to believe that he did that coz he was beaten up and then lost his job? yeah i can see why he would have been pissed but i didn't believe that that's why he decided to be a suicide bomber....there was no mention of the Israeli Occupation in Palestine, war in iraq,etc.......and we're supposed to take this movie seriously....these guys didn't even have the balls to actually Name the country that the boy was from, implying that it could be any Middle eastern country and that really, ALL Arabs hate the US.It's just like in crash when the word "Nigger' wasn't said by even one character but somehow we were supposed to believe they hated black people....it just rang false to me....
Contrast that to The Constant Gardener which takes place in an actual country and actually says the words " The British Goverment'...no fear there...now THAT was a truly provocative and disturbing movie.
Listen, i can see the appeal of Syriana...kwanza just the name of the movie..Syriana..it sounds so cool and exotic...so meaningful in a way....but what does it actually even mean? it's not said once in the movie!....they might have well just called the movie Gucci or Prada or something cool and jisty like that...
i remember watching Crash and in the begining the narrator says something like...in LA people are so cold shallow, unfriendly and unempathetic .....that they crash into each other just so they can touch each other somehow....anything for some human contact'....
are you kidding me with that line!!!!.....it sounds serious and deep but it just made me laugh coz it's so ridiculous...and it's not coz i'm taking the line literally.....it's just sounds like they were trying too hard.
Finally ordinary kenyans don't think about economics coz they have more urgent real life issues to deal with, like you know, EATING and paying rent...yeah...that kind of thing...so step out of your ivory tower for a sec and take in the view of the real world man....
>"ever wondered how we all are pawns in the game of
>economics?"
really?
Tell that to Argentina and Botswana who don't owe IMF a PENNY....and they did that in a matter of years not decades.
You are only a pawn if you allow yourself to be one.
