I got a chance to see Kenyan movie directing at its best during the showing of a Kenyan film,
From A Whisper, by Wanuri Kahiu! It was fantastic. The best part about it is that it covered the information about the US embassy bombing, the acting (other than the lead girl's) was pretty good, and the panoramic scenes of Nairobi were phenomenal (it actually looked modern).
This is the kind of movie that people need to see more of so that they know that Kenya isn't just a place where you have slums, malnourished children, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB! I am so sick of that view.
Oh, and the best part about this movie was that it won 5 major awards at the
African Movie Academy Awards, beating out Nollywood movies, hands down, IN Nigeria! It had the Nigerian film community examining their films and analyzing their directing strategies. They wanted to know what they need to do to bring their Nollywood standards up! That is great news. Go Kenya! Go
Wanuri!
