Na hayo ni maendeleo.
and thats why i said stand to be corrected. Id love to hear what the economic feasibility of this thing is to that remote place. Kenya is a VERY 3rd world country with VERY limited resources and I just think it would be a smart idea to channel these kidogo cash flow we have to projects which saidia not only the region but the entire country.

which brings up my second point. maendeleo should benefit the community AND country as a whole and NOT just 'residents'. Be Kenyan first, and community-oriented second.

I mean, its like buying a new amp and speakers to pop in your trunk but your tenje dont even work...priorities and cash management my guy.

You have a point, bt on the other hand look at it this way...you bring maendeleo to the local community which in turn will lead to more improved productivity, trade and consumption. All these means the community will contribute to the central govt through taxation/levies/fees which will in turn be spent in other deservind or less developed areas...meaning the country ends up benefiting.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Every community and every village have their own issues and needs that require to be addressed. The proper channel was to air their views to their member of parliament and local chief, to which now the offices have been abused.
If the local community through one of their learned villagers can air their issues outside the country and come back with the foreign currency so as to improve their comunity, what is wrong with that?? for example gitobu imanyara recently stopped the manipulation of funds to his community, and what was wrong with that??

imanyara writes to raila over road projects
by patrick muriungi

central imenti mp, Gitobu Imanyara has written to prime minister raila odinga asking him to suspend eight funded road projects in meru. The august 13 letter, may jeopardise upgrading of key roads that cut across meru central district and north imenti constituencies.
A german firm, kfn and the ministry of roads and public works, were to fund the project under the mt kenya rural infrastructure programme in 1999, but was expanded to include other constituencies. Funding following the expansion, the german firm approached the european union and afd of france to finance the upgrading of the 86 km.
The letter is copied to acting roads minister, chris obure, head of public service, francis muthaura, meru mps, the ambassadors of germany, france and the eu delegation in nairobi. Mr imanyara alleges that the 86 kilometres covers only one constituency, south imenti. The project was originally to cover 10 km.
He linked three senior officials in the ministry of roads for what he called manipulation of events allegedly in full knowledge of energy minister and local mp kiraitu murungi. Kiraitu on wednesday acknowledged receiving imanyara’s letter, but denied involvement in any malpractices. Imanyara wants investigation done and the original project reinstated.
if the members of parliament do not table the demands of their community, they should not go and steal other peoples projects!! that is why for this suspension bridge, someone researched ,planned and requested for this project so as to help his/her community, everyone should do so .
The community should hold their mp accountable for the needs and demands for their area. Look at this article that was in the standard,

why us investors have shunned kenya
by james anyanzwa
lack of appropriate information and poor marketing have denied kenya billions of dollars in lost us investments. the world’s economic powerhouse says its investors still don’t understand kenya and its people.
The us ambassador michael ranneberger confessed that convincing investors to come to kenya was among his toughest challenges. "one of the challenges i’m facing as an ambassador is trying to encourage us investors to come to kenya," ranneberger told the standard after paying a courtesy call on industrialisation minister henry kosgei, on wednesday. He urged the government to intensify its marketing campaigns to american investors.
Rannenberger underscored the need for kenya to develop the small and medium sized enterprises sector (smes) to encourage partnerships between kenyan and us investors. He said smes had been the major driving force behind america’s economic prowess. He said the two governments would discuss modalities of improving collaboration to attract more us investors.
"our focus is to try and support the grand coalition government to get results," said ranneberger, adding that "we are very positive kenya is moving in the right direction."
now , the local mwananchi has entrusted too much power and responsibility to their mp's and chiefs, and you think that this people will air the demands of their people.
If their mp cannot present a simple power point presentation let alone give a speech of why you need a hospital or a tarmacked road, then why cry when others are constructing suspension bridges in their area??

THE KENYA WE WANT IS THE KENYA WE AS WANANCHI BUILD POLITICIANS DO NOT BUILD KENYA THEY BECOME FAT CATS.

Opponents of the construction of that bridge should reserve a few minutes and have a candid conversation with someone from North Eastern/ Eastern Kenya aka ASAL aka NEP. You will understand why this kind of project was necessary. I have visited North Eastern a couple of times and was asked one time, " how is Kenya?" That is how the area is marginalized!
