I am waiting to see the analysis, but i would bet the Kenyan team for 2008 equalled if not bettered the Seoul Olympics games in 1988.
The team then had won 5 gold medals but a few number of silver medals and bronze medals. The 2008 has 5 gold medals, 5 silver and 4 bronze and can bet they are better.
All said and done, it is been two weeks of excitement. True, the Premiership is here to continue exciting us.. and I as well rout for Man U.
I realise that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone.

Beijing was better than Seoul '88.
In Seoul, we scooped 5 gold medals including Robert WAngila's.
We had a total of nine. OUr women have risen.

Kweli, we didn't have any woman in the list of medal winners! And in Beijing we had two gold medals and a silver..... possibly it has to do with the fact wanawake walianza kujiinua na kutetea haki zao huko Beijing. So may be Kenyan women are re-affirming their postion including in the sports arena!

Excellent work done by our athletes at these Olympics.
I wish Kenya could introduce more events. I know it takes money but I have never seen any encouragement from Kenyan sporting community events such as archery, shooting, cycling etc. that would not take much infrastructure to begin with. I think we must look forward in these games and I assure you we will always be in top 10 in the world (overall) if we can perform the way we did with just track events.
Guys, are you surprised that we can't seem to run 400M? I agree we are not known for short distance running but surely 400 is doable. Check out 1968 olympics 400, or 4x400 relays also 1972, '88 (I think) and even early '90's. We have a good breed that can do this 1/4 mile but I don't believe we recruit properly. I think we should have a formal program such as that in U.S.A. for recruiting basketballers to NBA, or footballers to NFL, where athletes are screened out and atbleast promised a career for a couple of years. Frankly, I believe that many Kenyans who could run or play other sports would rather go to college and not sports partly because some parents will not condone anything else and partly because most know that there is little hope in Kenya sports unless you are top three in any event. Let us overhaul and revive our sports programs and we will be unstoppable.

In Seoul 88, Kenya won a gold and a bronze medal in boxing! If am not wrong, that could be the last time we won a medal in boxing!
Kenya has in the past won medals in shorter distances (400m, and 4x400m). We haven't won in the last 2 or 3 olympics. May be, there is need to rebuild strengths in these events!
But true, women have come out strongly. The sports adminstrator can start planning for 2012 from now, and the effect will be even more glorious representations on the medal podiums come London 2012!
But proper planning has always failed our sports!

08-25-2008, 06:54 AM
Wow, there are countries that take pride in what they win in major competitions. With the Beijing olympics.... it started with India after only winnning their ever Gold medal in olympics.. it was reported as being parties all over!
And now the Britons... a BA flight specially for their team! Na isiotoshe.. kuna mengi yawangonjea!

hi,
I will be awake watching the 3000m Steeplechase and i expect big things.. aki wakinilet down sitafurahi.. vile nina flag yangu hapa hivi ready to wave like a mjinga... ithink the flatmates are gonna kick me out soon... at this rate... but then sijazoea kuona flag yetu kwa maji..so when that Dunford boy broke the Olympic record..
I think she made a tactical error. She mus have lost the leader and realized too late. She should change her strategy of holding back too much too late. This is the second time it has failed her, since the last time she couldn't catch the Japanese.
