There used to be a lot of night-runners around a school i once attended in western kenya. Precisely Ng'iya/Siaya regions.

The locals used to refer to them as Jajuok.

One day we skived school during night time prep to go buy some niceties/supplies from the local shops up the hill. The path came to a T-junction and suddely from our left, a "night-runner" with a flamestick on one hand emerged at full speed. I thot it was some dude on a bike. When he passed us ( about 15 metres in front of us ), i saw that it was a dude running full flight with no clothes on. He was murmering some jibberish stuff.

Dude bloody scared the living daylights out of me.

Descending down the hill from the shops, we could see like 2 to 3 flames at far distances from each other and from where we were. Truth be told, i almost wet my pants.

Got back to school and later on i was made to understand who they were and what they did.

Pole for almost wetting your pants
Looks like they not human beings then - when in their act

THE issue of nightrunners is an illusion,i dont know why the black race likes to embarass themselves. especially the issue of lynching was embarrassing, it was being broadcasted the whole day by CNN here inthe US.

[quote=nyira;671560]And they do not wear clothes:maybe special clothes which are so dark like the night itself.[/QUOTE

Yes that's true night runners can play invisible when they want to, but there are folks (like in Kisii) who are specialized in catching them. They're nicknamed nightcatchers.

One day my cuzzo and I were sent to deliver a message to a relative late at night. It was pitch dark outside but he knew his way very well and I dutifully followed. The sound of frogs croaking and crickets chirping was suddenly interrupted by a series of loud, synchronised thuds. I froze on the spot, fully aware that our shaggs (somewhere in Kisii) was infested with witches/nightrunners.
It took me a few long seconds to realize that I could not move nor speak. I lazily tried to utter my cuzzo's name lakini sauti ilikua imepotea. The thuds would fade away then abruptly sound louder. I cannot recall how long this sequence lasted, nor how long I stood there like a zombie, but I'd rather not. I do remember waking up the following morning and asking that I return home asap. This happened circa 1991.

The experience still sends shivers down my spine, and I still do not remember how we got home or what happened next. We did undergo some 'cleansing' rituals, and given instructions on how to conduct ourselves for the next several days.

Assuming you out there having fun with your man or gal, naked possibly would you have as well been considered a night runner and what would have been the consquences if any villager or the nightcatcher caught you?
