Default HIV AIDS stigma - 05-01-2008, 02:38 AM

We can't win the war against HIV AIDs while stigma is still high. Sad to read that some of the church leaders are part of the stigma problem. The "sin" tag that members of Kenya's churches still attach to HIV is hampering the fight against the pandemic.

I realise that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone.

Organized religion is the scum of the earth. Last year the NCCK had an AGM and they were asked whether discordant copules should use protection.... these devil worshippers said it was unholy Africans need to go back to animism or we all ferked!!!

Default Holier than thou! - 05-01-2008, 10:01 PM

Every time I think about religion that Kenyans practice, the more I get confused.

We just finished killing each other the other day, yet we all flock to the church every day. What a contradiction.

As far as HIV/AIDS is concerned, it still remains a problem. Have you had a close relative who is a victim? Not only is hard to come out public, but its extremely hard to talk to some close relatives. I think it will take loads of years before we really understand it.

When it comes to the church where the only way of looking at it is from sexual angle, it becomes super complicated.

Very sad but one day we will get there.

This is the thing, i blame all this on ignorance. Malaria kills more people than HIV but because of how one gets inakuwa another story.
in this day and age, kila mahali especially kenya pple are having s.ex like kenya ranging from kids to wazee. these are not the times when it was out of this world to be having s.ex and so i dont see why all the fuss is all abt.
not until hii upuzi iishe, then will we be able to handle the epidemic

We have moved some steps forward coz some churches do offer sessions on HIV awareness; some people have come out during funerals and declared their families died of HIV - but yes, we are still miles and years to overcome the stigma totally.

Church being the religious and social gathering it is should serve as a good entry point to the community to act on the epidemic - but we will need first to deal with the hypocrisy and contradictions.

The biggest problem and handle for fighting HIV AIDS epidemic is the stereotying of how people can get it - being sexually promiscous. The Church from the beginning had taken the wrong approach and the fight aginst AIDS was left on the hands of other strcutures like the NGOs, private sector - yet the church and religious institutions have a bigger following. Just to poke fun out of it, Trust Condom (PSI) was doing a better job but their goal was to sell more condoms while on the other hand the church should have been saving the souls
