Default My Peugeot my pride - 12-19-2007, 09:14 PM

The first car i bought was a Peugeot 405,and i know many kenyans grew up yearning to buy one of these.Marshalls East Africa announced early this week it had dropped its Peugeot franchise.

"Though regrettable, the move will not affect our business in any way. Our customers can still depend on us for spare parts and routine service of their vehicles," he said.

This is the reason a lot of companies lose their identity. How the f^ck do you drop Peugot, a 'brand' 90% plus of Kenyans, no......Africans can relate to !!!!

Default Is this true? - 12-19-2007, 11:00 PM

Marshalls = Peugeot. If they drop that, what do they become? Another panel-beating garage in Industrial Area? I'm really waiting to hear the story behind the story on this move.

Marshalls will continue dealing/selling with peugeot parts and repair but will not hold the franchise. By the way Marshalls also sells Tata and Kia.
The Peugeot franchise will be picked up by someone else.

Peugeot 4007 new SUV.

Well blame toyota,it has flooded the market, and also the fuel cost is to blame as pegeots consume generously.

Thanks a lot for that info. I wasn't aware of the Kia part.

Marshall's once had the Honda automobile dealership. They sold it, but the new buyers never picked up, and now it's been closed for over two years.

Marshall's also had the Honda generators franchise but now I see a "power products" duka on Kijabe Street. Maybe they lost that too.

It seems they are losing the glamour products and ending up with "Asian tiger" exports. Would you buy a Kia?

I think Merali is a tough negotiator, and when he sees foreign companies wanting to eat to much out of local hard work, he says no. Maybe, I'm not sure.

The new 406s can clock 20 kms to the litre. Not bad, esp for big bodied 1.8 litre engines. EFI does wonders.

The question is reliability. French cars compete with Italian cars for the bottom slots in car quality rankings, just check out various annual e-magazine results.

i dont think its just peugeot. the whole new and CKD sedan market in kenya has been killed by asian imports. Im sure GM is kept afloat by truck sales.

Its not necessarily a bad thing. The new and CKD market only employed a small handful of people, made expats crazy rich and could not meet the needs of our national fleet... whether Gavin Benett raves and rants at every newspaper space he gets about Mitumba vehicles, i think on the whole Kenya benefits more from the used vehicles

well it is only one ethnic tribe that buys this car, I have never known why. I also hate those cars anyway, my choice is any japanese model.
Even if you gave the peugeot free to me, I will just go to kisumu and give it out. I hate those cars.

Default Ripped off - 12-20-2007, 06:51 AM

Import duty, VAT, customs, exercise, etc, etc, pile up a car's sale price with an additional 75% to 80% of the imported cost.

An American can buy a brand new Toyota Corolla for $13,000-15,000. That comes to about 1.1 million shillings, after 6% sales tax. Which car can you get from the showroom in Kenya at that price??? I don't even think the tiny Suzuki Maruti goes for that low. And the American earns a higher salary.

We pay too much for things in Kenya.

Why should Kenyans feel proud that with 750,000/=, we're getting 8 year old Toyota Carinas? $10,000 SHOULD GET YOU A BRAND NEW CAR, albeit a small 1.3l possible.

We're being ripped off!!!
