Default Abortion @ marie stopes - 10-05-2007, 07:44 PM

I've kinda always wondered whether aborion is really illegal in Kenya seeing that it's carried out on an hourly basis at the many Marie stopes cliniocs in the country as the present director said " abortion is legal as long as it doesn't complicate'... what's ya take?

Its illegal, but marie stopes is supposed to assist women who have found themselves pregnant through rape, or women who cannot carry the baby to term due to some medical complications ( STD's & pysichological issues included)..... women who are not in a financial position to look after their babies once born are also assisted...

You therefore find women from al backgrounds making use of them.......

So just becoz a woman has one of the above, does it make her and the organization not to be spending time as inmates? the law states it's illegal and by the way what is this medical complicatiopn that would devoid a woman from reaching pregancy term? even HIV positive mothers are giving birth to healthy babies!

It's better to go to Marie Stopes than to those quacks in the backstreets. Most of the clients who go to Marie Stopes are from low-social class, who would have otherwise used unsafe methods to procure the abortion.

lyons lysons lyons, There are so many medical complications that could mean that a pregnant lady cannot carry it to term, starting with fibroids, to risk of an ectopic pregnany, anemia, brucellosis, etc. Any medical complication that places the mothers health at risk is reason enough to terminate a preganancy.

No wonder women who attend prenatal clinics at Marie Stoppes often end up with complications and even death after birth. what if there area of specilalization is killing the inborn rather than saving lives?

there should be a law that equally allows for a woman who has enjoyed sex and gotten pregnant and then turns around to say she cannot take care of the child, to be equally "aborted" i.e killed beofre living her full life.

May be they should just legalise arbortion to make it safe for women. Because trust me, if a lady want to have an abotion she will whether it is legal or not.
