Default signs demonic says PCEA head. - 12-13-2005, 02:39 AM

The head of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), Dr David Githii, has revisited his satanic symbols debate, saying they not only exist in his church, but also in Government institutions.

The PCEA moderator accused the Government of harbouring many satanic symbols in its top institutions, which he said had led to devil worship in the country.

Githii branded Kenya as a country reeling under the great influence of devil worship and which "desperately needs the abundant grace of God".

He said there were too many demonic signs in Government buildings, attracting Kenyans to devil worship.

"The country is now under devil worship, with most of those in power not praying to God," Githii said.

"The two snakes at the entrance to Parliament, the huge Masonic star at the entrance to the High Court, the frogs and tortoise signs in the High Court must be demolished," Githii added.

Githii also condemned the use of the word harambee, saying it was the name of a Hindu god. He said the word, which in Kenya is used to mean pulling together, was borrowed from Indians who, while lifting heavy loads in constructing the railway line, used to call for help from their god.

"Because Kenyans heard the Indians shouting harambee while lifting these metals, they thought that it was a word that means pulling together. We have lived for years glorifying an Indian idol," he said.

The prelate has been condemning what he terms as satanic symbols, which he says are behind the ills facing the country.

He has been advocating for the pulling down of symbols in old PCEA churches, especially those built by colonialists.

Githii’s view on the signs has placed him on a collision course with some of his flock, who view the symbols as memorials to their heritage.

Last month, Githii said the demolition of the symbols in some churches had resulted in revival in the congregation.

On Sunday, Githii said in Nyeri that that he would continue championing the demolition of the signs.
