=====================
GENERAL INFORMATION:

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, a number of Kenyan families and individuals made their way from New Orleans to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. According to broadcasts, it was to be at least three months before they can return. However, based on their addresses in New Orleans, these families and individuals are expected to have lost their homes, personal belongings, cars left behind during car pooling and more.

At the beginning of their stay in Dallas/Forth Worth, they were without their jobs, without food and supplies, and without more than a weekend's worth of clothing. In the past few weeks - through immediate support from a few Kenyans and friends, through limited government resources via FEMA and through local churches and agencies - some have found temporary housing, some have acquired clothing, some have found temporary employment while others are interviewing, and most have acquired basic dollars and food stamps. This, however, is proving to be far from enough when we consider the task of rebuilding lives from the bottom.

The fundraiser will focus on assistance with job placement, housing assitance, furniture donations, household items such as cups and plates, gift cards for Walmart stores to cover toiletries (not covered by FEMA food stamps), items for children ranging from 18 months to12 yrs of age, items for a soon-to-be newborn baby including a cot, gift cards for textbooks for the students, gift cards for gas, and monetary assistance to cover electricity, phone bills, daycare, and insurance costs.

Please attend the fundraiser to meet these families, to find out ways in which you can help, and to offer your support.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DONATIONS:

If you will be donating any large items such as furniture, please do not bring them to the venue. Plan to pledge them at the fundraiser and arrangements will be made for delivery.

In the event of excess donations, the surplus will be offered on behalf of Kenyans in D/FW to Kenyan Hurricane Relief efforts in other states, the American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org) and the Salvation Army (http://www1.salvationarmy.org).

If you are unable to attend the fundraiser but would still like to help, please contact an organizer as indicated below.
