Nokia face of africa - No beauties in Africa??

looking at the ladies who made it to the finals of the nokia face of africa plus even the eventual winners one is left to wonder if there are no beauties in africa. Surely is this the best we can get from africa or is it that the real beuties in africa have been denied access to such beauty pageants due to economic hardships etc

For the same reasons I dint watch it on Sunday, mnet was screening it at nu-metro prestige plaza and we were invited for the cocktail. If you would ask me, I think theres so much favoritism or they look for other things apart from apparent beauty. The beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and thats why we cant have same judgment, coz the chic from Kenya is more beautiful than the chic from Botswana.

There is no shortage of tyra banks look alikes in africa...question is does that look represent african beauty? That maina mama's hair is relaxed, wearing eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and shaped eyebrows...definitely in line with western values of beauty...on the other hand the other mama has the natural look...could that be the criteria?? I seem to remember a thread about being mistaken for akata and the insinuation that looking african=not attractive...are we confirming that idea here??

it is not question of american beauty style. The question is aren't there beauties in africa. All this hullabaloos about beauty lying is the eyes of the beholder holds no water. I mean halle berry is spectacularly beautiful regardless of the eyes' beholder. So doesn't africa have beauties who are beyond reproach? Mambo ya khoikhoi-beauty tumekataa.
