If the American tv phenomena C.O.P.S. was introduced in Kenya, it would be an instant international hit. Can you imagine the following real scenarion on tv for real:

"The gunman and two others had raided School Outfitters at Haria Plaza on Muindi Mbingu Street at 8.30am. But the robbery flopped when the manager and workers screamed, forcing the gangsters to flee.
Brave workers and pedestrians ran after the gangsters, who were brandishing pistols and threatening to shoot.
The robbers split and fled in different directions, two towards City Hall, and mingled with the crowd.
The third gangster branched off Kenyatta Avenue and took Kimathi Street. But his escape was short lived as he came face to face with two APs armed with a G3 rifle and a sub-machine gun outside Nation Centre.
The APs cocked their guns and dared the man to shoot. Fearing he might be shot, he threw the pistol on the road and went on his knees, pleading with the APs to spare his life.
The gangster received a few kicks and blows before the officers put him in their van and took him to Central police station. The pistol, loaded with a bullet, was handed over to the police."

The show could help reduce crime but on the other hand it could also increase the number of crimes.Its called mere exposure effect,you see something time and again,it doesnt become a big deal any more.And plus,such shows give criminals ideas of how to improve their game,they can assess where they went wrong and what they can do/not do next time for the operation to succeed.The criminals will also have the chance of watching other criminals at it and pick up useful hints.Lets not forget the kids who may aspire to be like the people they see on tv,and i'm not talking about the cops.
