Default ON THE WANGA QUESTION:The Usurper vs. The Anointed one! - 04-25-2002, 02:41 PM

THE PREMISE
===========
That for the strength of the Wanga and the Luhya community as a whole, it is necessary for the USURPER rather than the ANOINTED ONE to lead the people.

THE SITUATION
=============
Recently, Cyrus Jirongo was asked to step down in his bid for a KANU vice chairmanship in favour of the soft spoken Musalia Mudavadi.

THE USURPER AND THE ANOINTED ONE
---------------------------------
I hold that, Jirongo Cyrus, with no claim to aristocratic bloodlines or inherited wealth, in his ability to push himself to the fore of the community is the USURPER as opposed to Musalia Wycliffe, son of the late King of Mululu, Substone Mudaba Mudavadi Moses, who never knew want and made it to the leadership position by heritage and in that sense Mudavadi is the ANOINTED ONE!

ON THE WANGA QUESTION:BACKGROUND
--------------------------------
To keep this brief, I will show that in many instances, the power of the Wanga was at its peak during the reigns of Usurpers rather than during the reign of the rightful Nabongos.

It was Wanga son of Muwanga III that instead of his elder "heir to the throne " brother Khabiakala that established and expanded the Wanga Kingdom including assimilating the Abamanga under his rule.

THe next heir was Wabala but his reign was not to be for their existed another with designs to the same seat of Nabongo ship. Another Usurper known as Murono was to forcibly take over the kingdom and reign for 40 terrible years.

Without a doubt Nabongo Murono had his own heir who would take over after his death but once again things did not go to plan for he who lives by violence dies by violence.

And so it was that the throne was again wrested away by the son of Wabala who was assassinated by Murono. By the spear our man Muswi ended the tyranny of Nabongo Murono and became Nabongo Muswi.

The next three Nabongos were rightful heirs. ANOINTED ONES and their reigns were unremarkable thus Chibwire, Musindaalo and Chitechi are considered weak Nabongos.

But Chitechi was to find out that being ANOINTED means nothing to a USURPER!

For it came to pass my friends that around 1780, the most cruel Nabongo in history came to be by using Maasai mercenaries to overthrow his brother Nabongo Chitechi and establish himself Nabongo Netia as king.

It was this usurper that expanded the Wanga Kingdom into a huge Empire bringing untold terror upon neighbouring kingdoms and daring anyone to challenge the power of the Nabongo. He then moved the capital to Lureko present day Mumias.

But once again a believer of violence ends in it and so did Netia feel the violence of the spear that killed him courtesy of his own Maasai Mercenaries who had come from Angata Nanyooki(Nanyuki)

This was followed by the installment by the Maasai leader Kitumbess of the "Solomon of the Wanga" Nabongo Osundwa who was trained in war fare by the Maasai and was to rule for 45 years till 1845.

The ANOINTED heir Wamukoya was a weak Nabongo and his older brother Kweyu who had split the Empire into two had to come to the rescue of the weak anointed heir when the Wanga were raided from all sides by the Kager clan, the Bamasaba and the Babukusu and so on. But finally the two made peace and existed in a truce.

It was Nabongo Shiundu who would later go against this truce that his father had made and routed Nabongo Kweyu before turning his anger on the Kager clan and keeping them honest. Then he made peace with the Bukusu and the Bamasaba.

But again his anointed heir was a weakling called Mumia who did nothing to expand the Wanga Mukulu and it was that the Nabongoship came to an end.

CONCLUSION
==========

It is this my opinion that the history of the people of Western shows that a USURPER- Jirongo would do better for the strength and fortunes of the people rather than the ANOINTED - Musalia Mudavadi.

It is tragic that Jirongo had to step down for a weakling.

MTT, there is no point analysing KANU politics. We should strategise to bury the Jogoo deep down. Are you voting?

The point to be made is that Musalia Mudavadi is not leading his people to the State House.

A different sort of leader is neeeded for the Luhya people.

MTT,I think Musalia can do a fairly good job.Jirongo is too loud mouthed,full of drama.With him it's talk,talk,talk and no action.Jirongo has had chances to prove himself and he hasn't done it.Then he keeps on quitting KANU when he kosanas with Moi alafu Moi akimdanganya anarudi tena.You've got to think about this Musalia-Jirongo thing in a really broad perspective.Who is more likely to do nothing for his people,squander bake and property and jazz the public with ridiculous drama that can only be equalled with Matiba's mental condition?Jirongo for me.
You shouldn't base your argument on Musalia's soft spoken character trait.

Mudavadi is too malleable. It was during his tenure in the Treasury that he gave in too much to the World bank and IMF demands. We are now paying the price for this.

Infact he became soooo popular with them that Moi simply had to remove him from that Ministry.

He would literally sell the whole country to foreigners.

As a direct descendant of the House of Mumia and a probably the only 100% Luhya :-) on this forum, I find this post quite entertaining.

Trying to analyse today's political system using arguments based on history can be useful tool, however it is also open to gross
misrepresentation. Look at le Pen in France and his distorted view of French history that he uses to justify his political stance.

Anyway back to Western Province. I would be wary of throwing around labels such as weakling. Who here can serious claim that they foresaw Mudavadi being named as a Kanu VP? Why did Jirongo back out at the last minute after almost 5 years of constant anti "establishment Kanu" rhetoric?

Just who is better placed to be a uniting factor in Kanu than Mudavadi?

I admit that I do not know either man personally, but I would prefer to buy a used car from Mudavadi than from Jirongo at the moment.
