Oh this sad belief! It is so shocking. For instance no one will ever make me believe that my hair can be done better abroad Oh i miss Kenya everytime i have to go to a salon! Last holiday some kids were riding bikes in the estate and we were chilling outside the house. Then we hear one loud naughty little boy in our neighbourhood telling his friend eti "Hiyo jeans mbovu hivyo eti uncle yako alikuleta from Italy? Hata zile za Muthurwa ni afadhalia" OMG I laughed!!! He is TEN YEARS OLD We had vistors from "outside" yaani majuu. And they politley asked my dad to translate what was funny. You can imagine how that moment made proud Long live Benji! (that's our neighbour's awesome ten year old!)

And what do the top dogs do when sick – Yes, they get on a plane and leave the country for better treatment. WTF, do these people know the message they send Kenyan’s??

Recently its Muthaura, Raila makes the most noise about it – Germany for check ups. At least Ngilu had her priorities right when she checked into KNH once, and publicized everything.

From a local viewpoint – If I go to the same hospital as a minister, then it must be good. If on the other hand our leaders avoid these facilities, then they must not be good.

Its like cooking for your guests, and after serving them, you order in your own meal. Well that wont give much confidence in your food, will it now?
I like the way you think my friend. And by the way si there is a chance that whatever hospital he went to in SA he might just be treated by a kenyan doc there??? Ama his nurse will be a kenyan???
Nairobi hospital has some outstanding facilities and so has the agha khan hospital. Don know why they have to do what they do but i think they say use the public's money as much as you can when you can!!! I bet you tax yako ya last month that you just finished returning is chippin in right thurr!!!

It gets worse, and thats why I believe Kenyans are Morons, of the worst kind no less.

They said 8-4-4 was a good system, it was all encompassing, because of being privy, them leaders became millionaires overnight, developing and publishing books for the new course. We all went along with the new system (we were kids anyways - our parents that is).

But (And a big one at that), our so called recommenders of the 8-4-4, have their children in St.Mary's and the like doing the G.C.S.E. 7-6-3!!!. How moronic can we get?? Why would the legislators not take their children for 8-4-4, but tell you its the best???

It's all about NAME,STATUS. It's a pity to see that our leaders do not trust in our people and by saying so i mean the doctors in this case.Yes, i agree that, europe has better facilities but that does no mean when some our leaders are attacked by a cough have to bord a plane. This should happen in seroius cases but what will the poor do, n way we can't fit in the same basket:

Two different opinions: Frags = "it's a status symbol" vs Sanaa = "there's substance and value"....

I'll have to side with Frags here. I seriously doubt that NBI hospital doctors were defeated. I doubt that Muthaura's bypass surgery was "better" in South Africa than what would have been available in Kenya.

personally i think its a mixture of all these issues guys have pointed out

but one thing that stands out is the issue of people thinking what u can get abroad is much better than what u can get back home ... this is a mentality people need to change coz its not always the case. it is the reason people have flown out after school believeing that they have more chances of making it abroad as compared to making just here at home

all in all, i guess as long as people can affodr it they will keep flying out even if all they have is a simple attack of the flu

It all goes back to greed and the national slogan = profits before people.

The kenyan healthcare system is based on the fact that healthcare has to be expensive to accomodate the so many cheap medicine from other countries.

If the gova finds it expensive to cater for public hospitals then why not make the conditions suitable for private hospitals. The politicians always know that there is an option in the developed world. The EU countries know it well and they use it as a tool to push for reforms by dangling the visa issue on their faces.
