DAILY NATION*- When necessity invented global SoS

That was a Thursday. On Friday, Erik described Ms Okolloh’s idea to David Kobia, a Kenyan software developer living in the US state of Alabama.

Erik and David had never met, but they knew each other online. By Saturday, they had assembled a prototype of the website. On Tuesday, the site was live and ready for use.

The three persons you mentioned played a role. The idea was Okolloh's. I am not sure how much Ushahidi accomplished, though. First it came too late in the game and secondly, anything that the website sought to do was already being done in web forums and newspaper websites. I simply did not see anything novel in their idea.

you nailed that one; David Kobia stole a concept and used open source API. This has been done numerous times and it is quite easy. Now the guy who first came up with the concept made tonnes of money and was even hired by google to assist with the google maps API. David Kobia just uses third party software as his own. Mashada is run on vbulletin software. But not to sh1t all over Ushahidi; i think the jamaa who implemented this is quite innovative Ushahidi Updates from Nairobi | White African
