Time to urgently ban politics and private vernacular fm stations.

I have taken long to reach this painful decision but i am of the opinion that private vernacular language fm stations should be banned.

Let them be integrated into the government broadcasting corporation , kbc. Yes i love inooro very much, yes i listen to mulembe and kass, yes kameme wakes me up and so does millions of kenyans who have made vernacular fm their most favorite but i am of the opinion let them do their services under the ambit of kbc.

Default NO Politics in Vernacular FMs

They can be a pre-qualification for offering tenders to re-model them under the KBC radio fold. There can be twenty Kikuyu Fm channels or a plethora of FM Channels using the same language but let them operate under KBC.

How the promoters make their money is through advertisements modelled for their individual channels. All content must be certified by a daily KBC Monitoring Board.

Another very Important step; No Politics only News.

No invitation to Political Leaders or live dispatches of Political meetings or anything to do with content deemed Political.

Default Turncoats of peace.

I second that motion and the time to ban them was yesterday.

FM jockeys may spellbound us with narrations but it is time to de-politicize the media turned tribal, turned inciters and now turncoats of peace.

This idea is long over due. Unfortunately, Raila and ODM will be up in arms against it from the word go. Remember the Kass FM issue? I mean recorded evidence was out there for everyone to see but what happened? ODM goons and professional noisemakers prevented further action being taken against this FM Radio Station that was obviously used to incite people. This idea of yours, I'm afraid, will fall flat on it's face and will not see the light of the day, Royalblood@kinki. I suggest you come up with another possible solution to the problem.

What you are suggesting is beyond the realm of reality, censorship can be enforced in Kenya we can't just be lazy and ban the stations. Your idea is a bit too communist for my liking.

The government should not at any time try to take us back to the years of one radio and tv station that would be the mouth piece of forcing anything they want down our throats! we should not forget how we would sit on Sundays listening to or watching about how Moi went to church!! Had we had a similar situation right now, be assured Dr. Mutua would be reading us the riots act every time after the news!

All said and done, some or many of our FM stations need to be checked. Apart from the political stuff they air, many have some stuff that certain sections of the society will consider anit-social or not good to air like say during the day.

Can the government then see a way of working with such groups such as the Media owner association, Editors Guild, et al and come up with strong ethical standards and mechanisms for implementing and enforcing them. Just a suggestion.

Default Ban the damn vanacula stations

I agree with you all, lets ban this vernacular stations and integrate them in KBC like the good old days when you had to wait late at night(after was it 9pm) for a one hour session of your language of choice airing. Even thou it was limited, hate messages and all kinds of propaganda were on check!and everyone was happy!

Default Promotion of tribal sentiments

Though there is an argument that the vernaular stations would promote the culture of a particular community, I would say they have been used by our politicians and leaders to promote tribal feelings! It is fikad that point where if there is no FM station for your tribe, ni kama your tribe is being left out! Too bad.

Kwanza, we may need to deifne the need for these vernacular stations, and then ziwekewe vikwazo as to what much political content they can air! Call it censorship, but it should be enforced - politics iachie national stations that can do only in Swahili or English!
