A proposal by Lands minister James Orengo to reduce the land leases from 99 years to between 33 and 44 years was on Monday dismissed as “uneconomical and unrealistic”.
Mr Orengo ought to be involving stakeholders in decision making. He said the reduction would affect Kenya’s plans to be an industrialised country by 2030.
Orengo should persuaded the government to grant longer leases so as to encourage investment.
National Land Policy can be changed by MPs as Parliament is the supreme body to approve changes in law,but not Orengo.
