I think this is a glass-empty vs glass-full kind of situation. I wish we had other sources of information other than the news media to go by. Like I said, every news organization has an editorial policy, and that is reflected on the tone and content of its new articles.
Unfortunately, it's not often that you come across journalists who are completely free of political (or ethnic) bias. That leaves the reader to interpret the content of the articles and make their own conclusions. Some readers are smart, others are not. And that's where media influence comes in.
