Unfortunately I missed that. What did Caro say? Kenyans are ready to discuss these issues, but it is the Lesothians who are letting us down. They just want to wish mungiki away when everybody knows they are a reality that must be dealt with. I will give you the mind set of a Lesothian.
When AIDS was ravaging Kenya, the Luos with their blessed DOMO DOMO talked about it in the street, in their kitchen tables, in the funerals that followed. We saw mass awareness of the epidemic in Nyanza. 15years down the line, Nyanza has the second lowest new infection rate only above NE. In central, they were busy wishing it away, explaining to all and sundry that AIDS only affetcs ihiis. Once you are "cut" no need to use condoms, you are AIDS proof. 15 years down Thika leads with AIDS in the whole of Kenya. Central province new infection rates have jumped up instead of slowing, but as usual they want to wish it away.
Second example. The climate of Nyanza with its hot and wet weather is fertile ground for parasites to breed in. Cholera was almost an epidemic in the 70s. Njonjo even said he would never step in Nyanza in his life time. Jiggers was also ravaging central province, but nobody heard about it because the Lesothians are loathe to discuss problems, choosing to wish them away. 30 years down the line save for one time catastrophies like the recent heavy rains, cholera is a thing of the past. Nyanza having been denied medical funds still managed to survive and wipe cholera that broke out two weeks a ago in record time. On the other hand, jiggers, a simple ancient disease that is easy to prevent still ravages central and nobody wants to talk about it.
These two mindsets will explain to you why one community can control its baghdad boys while the other cannot control its mungiki vermins. This tells you that where one sees vice in thievery, the others sees it as virtue. Lesothians have to take charge and not wish things away.
