As a consumer, as many others, I do not have all the time to make background checks on a lot of things that I purchase or companies that I engage in business. I would like to, but the government assures me that it has a consumer protection body by name KeBS (Kenya Bureau of Standards) that ensures all my goods are bona fide.
Likewise, there is a body that ensures that commitment and quality of suppliers and service providers are up to par and are up to standards. By seeing their certification (In this case ISO), I am supposed to rest assured that am in good hands, as that particular establishment has qualified in the agreed standards of the level of service and safety amongst others to the public. With a report that will seem to indicate that Nakumatt was a deathtrap, even structurally (Inside: I understand the floor was not firm), that's an aside. What faith do I have that other certified institutions and business are up to par, in as much as safety is concerned. So people - Is the certification agent in Kenya that certified Nakumatt by giving them the certification of approval liable for the oversight? Yet its rather obvious they did not meet standards? How are they liable to consumers? Approved certifiers include but not limited to: BVQI, SGS etc (I cannot pop into nakumatt and look at their certification as am outta town, somebody please inform us who certified them)
