*** Joe the (unlicensed) Plumber has become a liability to the McCain camp. He is behind on his taxes, hates Social Security, and thinks Iraqis should be as grateful to America as Christians are to Jesus!

Joe may not even be registered to vote! Worse still, that business he wants to buy will prolly enjoy a tax cut under Obama, and tax increase inder McCain. Worst of all, he's admitted being a liar: -
"The $250,000 remark, I don't make $250,000," Wurzelbacher said Sunday on "Fox and Friends." "You know, I've never even come close to that, nor will I. I mean, I'd have to work, I don't know, 10 years to get that kind of money, maybe more."
This is Sarah Palin version 2: instant celebrity became instant liability! Score 1 more point for Obama, McCain & team scored an own goal with Mr Sam J Wurzelbacher!!

***Meanwhile, Colin Powell endorses Obama, critiques tone of McCain campaign. Is this +ve or -ve for Obama?

Pros: Powell has clout and a good Republican admiration.
Cons: it may be seen as a black man supporting another black man.

***Republicans in Ohio have gone to court to challenge the authenticity of the registration of thousands of voters. They claim the voter reg records to not match Social Security & driver's license, eg Joe Wurzelbacher vs Joe Worzelbacher. They're only challenging new registrations (most young people favour Obama).

Would Republicans accuse Joe the Plumber of voter fraud? | World news | guardian.co.uk

This looks like rigging to me.

Default GOP in-fighting?

Sarah Palin takes on John McCain, not once but twice. Anyway, McCain wanted "someone to take on the Washington establishment", and she's starting with him!!! What irony??

1) Palin supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages, while McCain wants to allow each state to make its own laws in that regard.

Palin breaks with McCain on gay marriage amendment - Yahoo! News

2) "Palin told reporters Sunday that if she were in charge of the GOP campaign, she would not allow the automated phone calls that have flooded key states."

Barack Obama turns rivals' words on them in Florida - Los Angeles Times

Obama mocked her, saying "You know, you really have to work hard to violate Gov. Palin's standards on negative campaigning."

(I forgot you have this thread here.)

Obama takes two days off because his grandmother falls ill.

Because his grandmother Madelyn Dunham, 85, has taken ill, Barack Obama is canceling events scheduled for Thursday in Madison, Wis., and Des Moines, Iowa, and flying to Hawaii, his campaign announced this evening.

On a flight from Orlando to West Palm Beach, Fla., tonight, senior campaign adviser Robert Gibbs told reporters that the health of the Illinois senator's grandmother, who helped raise him, had taken a turn for the worse, necessitating Obama leaving the campaign trail for two days.

Gibbs said Obama would return from Hawaii late Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

"Sen. Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has always been one of the most important people in his life, along with his mother and grandfather," Gibbs said, reading a statement. "She raised him in Hawaii from the time he was born until the moment he left for college. As he said at the Democratic convention, she poured everything she had into him.

"Recently his grandmother has become ill, and in the last few weeks, her health has deteriorated to the point where her situation is very serious. It is for that reason that Sen. Obama has decided to change his schedule on Thursday and Friday so that he can see her and spend some time with her. He will be returning to the campaign trail on Saturday." A new event Thursday morning in Indianapolis has been added to the schedule, after which Obama will fly to Honolulu, scheduled to arrive in the 50th state late Thursday. Obama plans to spend much of Friday with his grandmother in her apartment, Gibbs said.

Michelle Obama will hold events in place of her husband in Akron and Columbus, Ohio, on Friday.

Gibbs would not provide details about the nature of Dunham's illness, except to say that, with approximately two weeks to go until Election Day, "the decision that Sen. Obama is going to Hawaii, I think, underscores the seriousness of the situation."

Obama's wife and daughters will not be joining him on this trip. When Obama visited his grandmother in Hawaii in August, he suggested that it was important for his children to spend time with her, given her advanced years.

"I'm going to see my grandma, who I haven't seen in almost 18-19 months," he said on Aug. 7. "And, you know, who's getting to the age where I want to make sure that I'm spending time with her on a consistent basis and so that she could see her great grandchildren."

I wouldn't pop the champaign yet but i would freeze it.Obama raised an eye-popping 150 million dollars in September breaking fundraising records. He has money to play in states that Bush won.

John Kerry won 253 electoral votes. They are all considered safe for Obama. He has also added Iowa and New Mexico which even Republicans think they are gone and no need to spend the meagre money they have defending them.

If Obama win either Florida,Ohio,Virginia,Colorado,Missouri or Indiana it will be an early night. This are states that Bush won in 2004.The only state that Mccain has hope PA where Obama is leading by 15.

..."Now is the time to close the deal for Barack Obama and close the book on eight years of failed Republican leadership," Clinton said

America may be light years ahead of kenya in economic/technological development.

But when it comes to messing up elections, we're neck-and-neck running backwards!!!!!!!!!!!

usa could have it's "orengo-challenges-kivuitu" moment on nov 5, 2008.

the associated press: errors, mischief could lead to long election night

I am one of the few who was "privileged" to have heard the Kibera slum erupting into noise and madness within 2 or 3 seconds of Kivuitu announcing Kibaki's "win." what would yanks do?
"If Barack Obama carries every state that democrat john kerry won in 2004, plus iowa, new mexico and nevada, then he and john mccain each would have 269 electoral votes."
I hear both Obama and Mccain legal teams these days go to sleep with one ear erect, ready for Nov 5 scenarios of chaos!

Default AP: Obama aunt from Kenya living in US illegally

AP: Obama aunt from Kenya living in US illegally - Yahoo! News

Because of the hyperlinkophobia caused by the hackers (who, by the way, I now see are back and mingling with other Mashadites as if nothing ever happened), I will post the whole article here: -

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.

The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. No one answered the telephone number listed in her name late Friday. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

Onyango is not a relative whom Obama has discussed in campaign appearances and, unlike Obama's father and grandmother, is not someone who has been part of the public discussion about his personal life.

A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Kelly Nantel, said the government does not comment on an individual's citizenship status or immigration case.

Onyango's case — coming to light just days before the presidential election — led to an unusual nationwide directive within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requiring any deportations prior to Tuesday's election to be approved at least at the level of ICE regional directors, the U.S. law enforcement official told the AP.

The unusual directive suggests that the Bush administration is sensitive to the political implications of Onyango's case coming to light so close to the election.

One of the sources acknowledged he was not a supporter of Obama or John McCain and said he has no plans to vote on Tuesday. He said that was not a motive for releasing the information.

Kenya is in eastern Africa between Somalia and Tanzania. The country has been fractured in violence in recent years, including a period of two months of bloodshed after December 2007 that killed 1,500 people.

The disclosure about Onyango came just one day after Obama's presidential campaign confirmed to the Times of London that Onyango, who has lived quietly in public housing in South Boston for five years, was Obama's half aunt on his father's side.

It was not immediately clear how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order.
This guy saved the information until the last moment.

The Race is Tied. What If It Stays That Way? | Heretical Ideas Magazine

"The disputed election of 1800 led to the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, pictured above. Most observers feel that an Obama-McCain duel is not a very likely outcome of this election."

Jokes aside, the House of Representatives votes to break an election tie, one vote per state. Democrats have an advantage, barring defections.
