The American Dream -
09-05-2008, 05:45 PM
I have been following a lil bit the republicans n democrats hammer each other at their respective conventions. A major feature is the american dream, the fact that america is the only country in the world where u can come in as a foreigner from nowhere and as a nobody n end up somewhere and a somebody. How truly really is the 'america dream' true?

Chief, i think the american dream is just universal.....When I first heard of the American Dream, I debated within myself a lot about this idea, the American dream. Finally, I concluded the matter of dreaming about life’s basics wasn’t exclusive to North America. The American Dream is the following: Go to college, get a good job, and finally get your own family.
If we think about it, the American Dream is indeed a UNIVERSAL DREAM. In most parts of the world, people want to get well educated, to get a good job, and certainly to create a marvelous family. Whoever doesn’t want those things, I must say that this individual is loony. We need to gain some independence, and the only way of doing it is by getting educated.
It is indeed a universal necessity. Whether u in kenya, congo, Iraq n ****........

Totally agree .... and you forgot to add own a home.
If you are dedicated to your goals and you work hard to achieve them, you can realize the so called "american dream" in MOST countries. I say MOST because a kid growing up in Darfur has less chances of realizing his/her dreams compared to a kid growing up in Kenya, UK, States, etc.

So the american dream is the universal dream only that it seems to be almost always achievevable as an american dream? I rarely hear indian dream or russian dream though.

First of all, the term "american dream" is extremely vague. If the interpretation is being successful and prosperous, then you can achieve that in very many other countries, not just the US.
