hirmly07, anything can happen in politics. I was talking to this old white American female. We were discussing the election as we both support or at least will vote for Obama. I pointed out that I am worried people will say one thing and vote another when the door is closed. She thinks he will win by a bigger margin because people are embarrassed to admit they like him in public but will vote him in private. And she is going to vote for him! Let's wait for November 4, 2008 and see

This one is meant to attract the clinton feminists and am afraid it may work.

No way in hell. You can't compare that woman to HIllary. I hated Hillary because she was tough, strong-willed, and was full of determination. This woman is not even half as strong as Hillary. Biden can take care of her. Full stop

KEMINOKANA, I think I will agree with you. My opinion is that she will energize the base while at the same time she has the potential to pull some female votes for the ticket (particularly some very disaffected Hillary supporters who are looking for an excuse to vote against Obama). Obviously her pro-life positions will keep her from getting any large percentage of the feminist vote but she may pull some of the "soccer mom" type voters.

Furthermore the fact that she would be the first woman Vice President takes some of the edge of the "historic" nature of Obama's campaign which is his primary appeal to most Independents. Republicans aren't fools you guys

Of course this is just my opinion. Time will tell how effective she is in getting Independent voters.

It won't have the impact Republicans expect it to.

Krenshaw, though I am a die hard democrat, I don't think heads-up Sen. Barrack Obama can beat Sen. John McCain. There are just too many people in the US who aren't ready for a black President and the only way for Sen. John McCain to make up ground is to aggressively appeal to another demographic and second on the food chain is the women vote.

There are a lot of people who won't vote for Sen. Barrack Obama because he is black. They may not even realize that is the case. They just don't like him and deep down it is because of his race. The other day I had a conversation with someone who said he wouldn't vote Obama. After several questions he finally admitted that it may be because he is black and when he looks up and sees Sen. Barrack Obama and his family on TV they don't look like this guy's family and he can't connect with him. I don't think this guy is a racist, he just feels like he has nothing in common with a black guy.

Many people in the US have very little exposure to black people. There is the black/white issue and the big fight will be for those second tear voters. Sen. John McCain is going with a conservative mother hoping to win the middle class women over while Sen. Barrack Obama is going with Joe Biden hoping that he can use his experience in foreign policy to convince these middle class women that he will keep them safe. To me the election really comes down to two things:

1. If Sen. John McCain can connect with the independents and get the working class independent voters to vote for him in the swing states he will probably win (or at least make himself very hard to beat)

2. If Sen. Barrack Obama can activate the far left and actually get them to put the bong down long enough on election day to vote he will win. Historically the far left talks a good game, but then fails to turn up at the polls on election day. The last guy to really activate them was former President Bill Clinton and he rode them to a win. If Sen. Barrack Obama can actually get them to vote he will be nearly impossible to beat. I find myself wondering of those two which is the harder task? What do you guys think?

Wantai, it just may. As kukurukakara said, it will reenergize the base(so far conservatives have been dancing) and may sway some good percentage of independents and conservative democratic women. I saw where one pro-obama young woman said this will make her choice difficult. You can imagine those who were ambivalent to begin with. She may be inexperienced but she has no baggage and being a white woman, she can wave the gender card any time whereas Obama gets punished if he pulls the race card. Mccain may be old, but so far, he's scaring me. Karl Rove is outwitting Axelrod big time. Let's wait and see. But Biden was a total mistake. On the downside, she's against abortion even in rape and incest.....too extreme.

KEMINOKANA, I've just remembered something else. Though it's pretty obvious that Gov. Sarah Palin was brought in to help energize the base, the big question is will she help bring in independents in swing votes? Personally I don't think that she will. Sen. John McCain is losing ground in several states that are traditionally strong Republican states and he is not taking away any Democrat states. At this point if Sen. Barrack Obama just wins the states John Kerry won in 2004 (most of which he is well ahead in the polls in) and then one other toss up state he beats Sen. John McCain. He doesn't even have to win Florida or Ohio. He can win Nevada or Colorado and carry the day.

Sen. John McCain is going to have to fight just to hold onto some of his stronghold states while having to win several of the swing states. That is a big task and to do it he will have to appeal to independent voters. So the question is will Gov. Sarah Palin help him there? Again I don't think she will. She may not hurt him greatly, but I don't see her helping him much. Then again it is politics and people vote for a lot of strange reasons so you never know guys
