Mccain campaing team is either run by very brilliant guys or guys who are dumb as a rock. mccain by picking an unknown is going to reclaim his maveric image, which now makes it harder for the obama team attempt to tie him with bush. obama has been clawing in some states that have been tradionaly red states e.g montana, one of the reason for this is that some consevertives have had issues with mccain, they claim he's not a true conservetive. sarah palin is way to the right on issues, this makes it harder for obama to appeal to them.

Now this becomes a battle for the independents both mccain and obama have had a good history with independents. who is a better salesman for his ideas? my biased opinion, obama wins this battle handsdown. Another thing mccain is worried about is the young voters and minorities. Apart from women i dont see which other minority group palin is going to appeal to. if young people (35 and below, they tradionaly vote under 20%) show up and vote mccain is in trouble

Even though blacks only make up for 12% of the population they have to come out and vote in big numbers, they are among the demographics that usualy have low turn outs. this election being a close one, a good turn out by blacks will help obama alot.

By picking Governor Sarah Palin as his running mater, I personally think McCain just did a huge favor to Obama.

Taking Palin is a huge risk for McCain and he may have just thrown away the election. McCain has always had trouble with the party base. The conservative Christian right is suspect of McCain and he has been losing some of them to Obama and had trouble getting them to back him. This woman is a hardcore Christian and is very pro-life and pro-gun. I think, by nominating her, he was going more after the base of the party and less after the Hillary supporters. The angry Hillary supporters were either going to vote for McCain or not regardless of who he picked and I don't think many of them are simply going to vote for any woman on a ticket. Palin gives him someone that is firmly in the base to back him up which could help him out. Unless they decide that he is just taking her to try to manipulate them.

So while she probably helps him with the base, she hurts him bad in other areas. First, she has almost no experience. She makes Obama look like a seasoned veteran. When you pick your VP you are basically saying, "If I can't be president, this is the next most qualified person." Well, how can he now go after Obama for being too inexperienced when his own VP has even less? He can strike out against Obama on that topic, but he just gave the Obama camp plenty of ammo to fire back with.

Second, when she has the VP debate with Biden, who is the current chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, he is going to tear her apart. She has zero foreign relations experience and almost no domestic experience. She will have a very hard time against him and if she comes off badly it will hurt McCain.

Third, she is currently involved in a major scandal in Alaska. It seems her sister was married to a state trooper and they got divorced. During a bitter custody battle Palin decided to help her sister out and asked the state commissioner of public safety to fire her sister's now ex-husband. When he refused she fired him for not doing what she wanted. He made such a stink that the state legislature appointed a special prosecutor to investigate if she had abused her powers as governor. You know that prosecutor just got really popular. The Bush administration has been under heavy fire because they fired some federal attorney's for political reasons. Now McCain's VP has fired someone for person reasons so that her sister can get custody of the kids. That doesn't look so good and you know it will be brought up. It smacks of abuse of power and that is something the republicans are already struggling with and she doesn't help that fight.

Lastly, she will have the same problem Hillary had. This may sound sexist, but a lot of men just won't vote for a woman. They see her up there talking and to them it sounds like she is nagging them. Guys don't want to be nagged and they won't vote for someone they feel is nagging them. There are many a swing voter in this election who may now look at McCain and say, "He is old and if he dies I don't want that chick." They may not then vote for Obama, but they may just not vote at all.

This is a huge risk that basically took away one of McCain's only real attack points on Obama and she is so connected to big oil it is going to make McCain seem like he is in the pocket of big oil who are currently not looked upon very nicely. McCain used to be known as a Maverick, maybe he thinks this will help bring that image back. Me? I think he is in big trouble. What do you guys think?

I don't think Gov. Palin will have the impact the McCain campaign hopes. She is currently under investigation in Alaska for a case involving the firing of a state trooper who was locked in a bitter custody battle with her sister(something of the sort). Even if she is cleared it'll be fodder for the DNC for the time being. How is that change? or Ethics reform?

McCain is trying to sell the 'CHANGE' message, and we saw how well it worked for Clinton - she got beat!

Gov. Palin is far out to the right. She is extremely pro-life even in situations of rape and incest. I doubt the Clinton feminists and other informed women would gravitate towards her.

It has now made McCain's argument that Obama isn't experienced to be commander in chief much harder to make. His VP is 44 yrs old, has no foreign policy experience whatsover, and is virtually unknown. McCain being 72, if something should happen can she really be trusted to lead?

Also, the DNC can draw comparisons between her and Clinton, and she's no where near Clinton in terms of achievement. I can only see her appeal to other 'soccer moms' and not young people like students. If students turn out to vote in record numbers Obama wins. If black people turn out in record numbers to vote, Obama can possibly win some southern states that have been traditionally voted republican. Arizona(McCain's home state) is competitive and never has that occured.

Obams/Biden just have to keep drawing contrast with McCain. He voted 95 times with Bush on issues so he can still be likened to Bush. He also wants to appoint judges who possibly will reverse Roe v. Wade. if that's not enough to draw women to vote democratic, I don't know what will.

Personally, I think McCain ust helped Obama beat him.

While McCain strategy was to get Clinton supporters, I think he just shot himself in the foot. First off quite a number of Clinton supporters worship her and listen to whatever she says, after the DNC convention, the pool of angry Clinton supporters has narrowed. So if McCain gets the remaining anti Obama voters, he is going to lose Blue collar White men who still believe that a woman's place is in the kitchen. The thought of if he dies, she's President will incline most of them to just stay home on election day. I think Obama should aggresively go after blue collar white men in the country side, those are the ones who will decide the vote. Just let Palin keep singing about 18 million cracks, dont attack her at all, this will annoy those white men who may look at Biden and say Obama may not be that bad after all. And knowing Americans, someone should email that picture of Palin in the black mini skirt, guaranteed to reduce her to a sex toy thus no votes. Sean Hannity I'm waiting to see that black mini skirt as breaking news coz you know if that was Michelle, we wouldnt have heard the last of it.

John McCain's attitude towards VP post is not much better: -
"The vice president has two duties. One is to inquire daily as to the health of the president, and the other is to attend the funerals of Third World dictators. And neither of those do I find an enjoyable exercise.''
March 5, 2000 on Meet The Press

More here.

That "health of the president" if he's 72-80 (assuming 2 terms) becomes a crucial question.

OMG!!!! Michelle in a tight black mini???!!! NASA would have beamed the image to the moon for the whole of humanity to see!!!!! Internet traffic would have been dominated by searches for that picture, at the expense of porn - believe me!!! John McLaughlin would have come back from the dead to discuss...

Ai hata sijui what to say. Michelle is attractive but I was leaning more towards the hate mail and angry comments she would have gotten had that been her picture. Conservative whites would have gone on and on about how we cant have a hooker ( coz of the hooker shoes) as first lady and then proceed to buy the closest Michelle look alike they can find, hypocrites!!! I'm giving Sean Hannity mpaka Tuesday, he can claim he was busy partying on Labor day.
