Default Screwing - 08-24-2008, 01:25 PM

My first culture shock when I first came to the usa 8+ years ago was seeing really fat people.

I mean fat!

Since then, in subsequent visits and sojourns, my collection of vintage culture shocks has continued to accumulate. I think, my greatest shocks have come from the numerous liberal uses of anatomical and sexual terminologies. I have sat in a bus and heard a mother yelling at her children to “sit your ass down here!” and I have read of a senator of 30+ years saying the US President's comments in the Israeli Knesset likening some to nazi appeasers was bullsh*it.

I work with my boss’s niece, and oftentimes she refers to her aunt as ‘that loudmouth boss.” Lately, as the American swimmer - Michael Phelps amassed gold jewelry in Beijing, I read in some mainstream media like the NY Times, the LA Times, MSNBC about screwing up. The NY Times reported that Berens, one of the swimmers in one of the relays in which Phelps was a member of the us team “asked what went through his head during the race, hearing phelps barking at him from the pool deck, ... said he swam with thoughts of “don’t screw up.” and then the la times quoted Jessica l. Tracy, a psychologist at the university of british columbia, saying that, "we have been taught that even if we screw up in life, to hide it." to cap it all, msnbc headlined a story “phelps gold medal national anthem screw-up”. Maybe it is my conservative upbringing, or the fact that i live in a shell all of my own, shunning the social life. Maybe I am too old-school to think they should just have substituted 'screw' with 'mess'. But then, you probably know about the very prominent brotha preacher who wanted to cut the nuts off an even more prominent brotha in the present national spotlight.

Life can be a piece of screwing!

You get so used to the word that it doesn't even seem like a naughty word.
I'm immune to the word fvck as well.

- focus on your culture, moron

- some words are not such a big deal after hearing their use or

misuse over time.I guess one becomes used to them.

-"Don't mess with Texas " sign sounded mean on till i heard

"Thats stupid" and "F ck that " over and over again.
