Devine-currentlyreading

a) nervous conditions by a zimbabwean tsitsi dangaregba the familiar tale of clash of african and european cultures in early post colonial zim-she wrights very well.

B)the rise & rise of kerry packer (at time of death 2007 was australia's wealthiest)by paul barry a lesson on how the rich get richer in the capitalist world (fast decaying mind you) tax avoidance made to look clever etc.to me just an interesting expose of business dealings..

c)-rough crossings-simon schama. This guy brings alive the slave trade and the formation of sierra leone as a haven for freed blacks. Makes for interesting reading. His prose is alive. But his biase at trying to make england the good guy vis a vis america does not rub on me! Thanks

Barb shoots half-heartedly:......am not totally agreeing with what the post is saying, i think some of his expectations are ludicrous, but my belief is that if you are so passionate about something, do something about it, instead of criticizing people.

Whats up? What is ludicrous about what I am saying? What are you sort of agreeing with?

your ideas are very transformational, and interesting. I underwent the same metamophorsis in my 3rd year of undergrad and it changed me. Keep on studying and reading more and sharing

but at the same time, be careful that your passion does not overide objectivity, If a mind has been colonised for a long time, you do not change it by attacking it rather by educating it

with that said always remember that there are alot of grey areas when it comes to culture and the dynamism of it.

Humans have survived because they adapt. Once we used sea shells for currency, now we use paper money, silly example but you get my gist

Dont confuse mordenism with adaptability.

I will finish with a saying a good professor once told me

Cultures that refused to change, disappeare in irrelevance
