Was this a correct observation??

Let me attempt to answer this....
Early in Kenya's history the Armed Forces was predominantly kamba....this was because of colonial recruiting practices....they found that few tribes (apart from the pastoralists) had the tracking skills and knowledge of the land required..You only have to look at how wide-spread ukambani is to understand what a huge influence the akamba people have been on the history of Kenya. I also find it difficult to reconcile the humble self-effacing kao of today with the adventurous and belligerent one who captured and held land from the ferocious maasai(they still want kitengela back..lol) and travelled far to trade and settle with other tribes away from kao-land.
It is these characteristics that must have led the mzungu to feel that kaos were suited for duty in the armed forces...
This is maybe what has led to the
stereo type...seeing (in early independence days) their brothers in the forces would obviously have pulled more kamba youth to join..during the "africanisation" period after independence..(this has since changed...moi recruited exclusively in the RV and I'm sure emilio is recruiting in nyeri now)
as for kamba women...it is not a case of only being attracted to the uniform but one of perhaps being comfortable with the military life due to having relas there and they know what to expect....
I hope that explains something.....
YB* am I missing something here or are you saying that only kaos have responded to this thead?
