Could you please provide a link, I want to use that in the future. I didn't know it was that high, I knew most Kenyans sent money home, but that much? Impressive.

You know what, the idea of going back home 2 stay is very tempting but I have lost all the patience I used to have for some things.........I would do it if I had plenty of cheese but still all my patience is so so gone.

I might have been too aggressive with that response. I get emotional, and that was an emotional response. I apologize.

"that's why i'm not seeking to prescribe an 'african' way of doing things. africa is a big continent, africans are many and different. there's no single 'african' way of doing things."

Fair enough. Africans are diverse, but are you denying the underlying historical similarities? Perhaps I should have narrowed it down some and said Kenyans?

"i respect people's right to choose for themselves, even if their decision is different from mine. & my decision, being my decision, is personal and is my business. i'm not going to put in on a mashada forum to seek approval or support."

Are you suggesting I don't? If you put your views on a forum, they will be challenged, as evidenced by you. I respect your privacy and if I crossed a line, I was not aware of it. Again, my apologies.

"all humans are brothers and sisters, not just africans. wherever you are, you can play a part in helping the people you live among and supporting them."

I wholeheartedly agreed. I resent the insinuation that I don't ........perhaps an assumption on your part?
Have you heard of the proverb "Charity begins at home.....?” That was my basic reasoning. I included Kenyans everywhere in the 'home' category, perhaps hastily. However that would be another argument all together, how far does the 'home' category stretch? I hope you understand my analogy.

In my opinion what we need to do as a diaspora community is come together over direct, tangible projects to solve home's problems and then figure out whether or not to return to Kenya on the basis of the requirement of the project (s)
A much more practical solution. Kudos

do you really think stuff will change coz of Obama? seems to me black people with keep buying rims, shooting each other, watching Bullsh!it Entertainment TV (BET) and selling crack. But i really hope it changes something if at all.

Am NOT going the Sanaa way no time soon for many of the same reasons here posted. I should get a job coz of my blah blah yrs of experience or whatever qualifications- not the fact that I am a Pokot or a Rendile etc
There is an article in todays gazeti about how it takes longer to get a Log Book form the Gava than it takes to import a car from Japan. This kind of crap is UNACCEPTABLE and INEXCUSABLE.
A friend of mine who just fikad was telling me about some bank where you check your balance at one counter then proceed to the next counter to make a withdrawal or AOB....if this 100% inefficiency. Why is that bank manager still employed??

sema, wanjala. i'm not making insinuations against you. just defending myself from the insinuations that i believed you to be making against me.
my point is just that different people will have their reasons for going home or for staying abroad. the most we can do is make the decision for ourselves. it's not good judging other people who decide to stay abroad because you haven't walked in their shoes.

you didn't invade my privacy. but you assumed i was on the defensive and didn't want to rudi home. my point in that privacy statement was that you were making assumptions about me that weren't necessarily correct. i'm not against kenyans returning home, but i am against the statement that all kenyans must return home.

peace.

Should Kenyans make an effort to go back home-the answer is Yes! After all the education and the fast foods and the depleting social security funds in america, medicare gone and no federal and state funds for nursing homes, your best bet is to hurry back home-quick.
If you can bag in as many degrees as possible do so when time still allows, work those hrs, invest, have a close family and think of packing and making that journey to the motherland.

Haha, I feel the exact same way. I shy away from online political debate just because I feel so sad at the end of it. Both Kenyan and U.S. It's sad that racism, tribalism, corruption etc is still so rampant, atleast online. It makes me sick.

How do you feel about the political attacks in your country of residence? Are they better or worse than Kenya?

what do you mean by 'political attacks'? assacination? if so, Ive not heard of any politician as such being killed. But they say that DC madam was killed coz many politicians would have being going down in that case.

Not political, but politically motivated.
