Default Just wondering - shoot not! - 05-10-2008, 10:10 AM

Question 1 - Hands up if Kenya 2007 elections hasn't affected ya general thinking. Many hands, i'm sure.

Question 2 - Hands up if Kenya 2007 elections hasn't affected ur 'dating other tribes' perspective.(Many will lie that it hasn't).I won't.

This issue brought chaos btwn my pals, people i've known since forever.

This is my story:I was at the verge of seriously dating a Kenyan who isn't my tribe, as in we were to tell our families back in Kenya sometime soon...until he made one powerful comment..he didn't even know i heard.I acted foolish n never told him a thing..just weighing his brain for some time. His buddy who's his tribe told him 'She heard you that day, by the way.'Boy was so so SURPRISED.From nowhere the fool brings the topic to the table."Now i understand why you avoid me these days..bla bla.."Fool now wants to explain how he 'did not mean it that way'.

Quiet frankly i wasn't dat into him(thats ana story)He was 'just an ok guy' si eti 'true love' But then that comment came up and finally i had a reason to butt out.I feel free, and now i choose to date ONLY smart people. But,honestly,my view has changed after elections. There are SOME tribes i would like not to be lifetime-involved with...Unless a guy proves to me that his family is a bunch of smarts who think global. Not fools who think life is about their tribe.I won't mention any coz like i have implied, i'm too smart for that. And am hell too hot to put up with backward thinking.Just my preference.

What do mashadites think?I don't mean to brag..jamaa cannot ACTUALLY believe i mean business by 'I'M DONE'.People think 'we are good together' But nada,I believe i'm still young (Low 20s) and there's no rushSmart thinkers only.

Default Now you know - 05-11-2008, 08:03 PM

I mean given the fact that Kenya has been highly tribalised for ages, I would not understand why one comment would make you think radically different of a person. Im not condoning tribalism but what am saying is that Kenyans have had this behaviour of stereotyping people. In my other posts I have infact vehemently opposed attacks against Kiuks because apparently a lot of people know little about them but prefer to label them as thugs, prostitutes etc.

So while these casual statements by people should be frowned upon I believe at times we should restrain ourselves. For instance, you should have told your ex that you took offence of what he said. Then you should have assesed him from there on how he responds to your culture, family etc.

Also if you didnt know the tensions and challenges involved when dating people from other tribes at least now you know.

@ikea thanks I will only go for smart people. That's the way!

@jamboree i hear you lakini it's just...well...i'm...yeah, i know it's kinda unfair 2judge the whole tribe but...he crossed the line.

Not all Kyuks are prostitutes/thugs etc.I have had Kyuk friends since childhood...my God mom is a Kyuk.Great family friends. No offence but people who come from the bush are the ones who think the world is about their tribe coz their next door neighbour, their family friends, the whole church, school etc ALL full of ONE tribe.Even the dogs bark in one tribe lol Yeah.Bush people can be strange(not all though)

I think i'm glad he said that...kinda.I was dating the guy just coz i was ditching being single. But then you realize after sometime that you can love this person...coz he treats you right and stuff...so i was like why not?THEN he makes that comment and whoa!!I BOILED!HUGE DETOUR!!!So now i'm back to not learning to accomodate him as an 'okay jamaa'.Simply not my type.PERIOD.

I just started picturing old Kyuk women from his ocha talking bull about me and my family(as proud, hot and learned as we are!)Sorry i brag too much about my family...
Ok i've spilled the beans.Boy is Kyuk, exotic Kyuk.Coast boy(and i thought being Coasterian would make him think past Central province but zi,same old same old)
I'm a bit pissed off, but generally relieved I cannot afford to be burdened by foolish narrow minded inlaws,boyfriend/Huzzy or whatever else we could have been&i don't want narrow minded kiddoz hahaha i want smart genes lol!

Actually I take offence. Not because am a Kyuk but because I have taken it upon myself to dispell the rabid hatred and simplification of the Kikuyu people. Your attitude towards him and any other Kiuk for that matter has been shaped by the systematic lies and stereotyping that you have been fed on. I cannot blame you because I had to interact with Kikuyus often to realize that quite number of them are really civil. The community being so enormous, with even Moi being rumoured to have his ancestry from the slopes and the unconfirmed story(or is it a joke) of him being fluent in Kiuk, it would be in bad faith to presume that your Kiuk inlaws would be hostile because of some stereotype you hear about purists among Kiuks. Does it mean that your kinsmen are the better ones off? Hopefully there are not the ones behind the vicious "kikuyu this kikuyu that" hate messages

As you have admitted you had issues in your relationship- i.e. you were not so sure about the guy but since he seemed ok, you decided to have a go at him. When he made a comment that you did not like, instead of dealing with him as a good couple would, you decided it was time to end the relationship or whatever was left of it.

I do hope that you get your love from a non Kikuyu since that is your wish. However, always bear in mind that most of what is said about tribes here and out there is far from the truth. Each individual is different.

@jamboree, dude started this sh*t, not me.Up until then i liked the dude for the person he seemed to be.

I am human, that explains why my perspective has shifted. And i'm proud of my tribe too, that doesnt mean i go saying stupid remarks about ather tribes, does it???
A tribe cannot be better off/smart/thieves/thugs/kuroz etc INDIVIDUALS can be.So in this case, my individuality represents not being able to put up with narrow minds, now THAT makes me better off.Sure does.
And what has his individuality presented me? Well, a mind that cannot travel beyond Central Province.See i can't take that...DU! ZI!

I don't hate on Kyuks, all am saying is that i'm very wary of them now...thanks to one individual.Think of it this way. One can be wary of dating Nigerians coz of their well known uchawi(and seriously not all of them are wachawi). Now, i'm very wary of Kyuks WHO CAN'T THINK PAST Nyeri,Murang'a etc.You MUST be smart enaf to know the world is not about KIKUYU.Then i can listen to your romantic side.

By the way a s*ht load of ma friends are Kyuks.Class people i've known for like...EVER!None of them are any of the things most Kenyans call Kyuks, ok?

I would date one who proves to be exposed. And i don't think you can find that in a country boy from the bushes of Mathioya or Nyeri who thinks even birds sing in KyukNo, i refuse.
