Does anyone know of what happened to that gifted kid,K. Karanja who used to be televised with a certain heart surgeon describing open heart surgeries? The last i heard of him, he had left for further studies...

Are you sure his name was K.Karanja? Thought his name was Ndengwa, Njoroge or some N...something. I remember his diagramatic explaination of the functionality of the brain (left and right) which came to make sense to me years later in my third year in college! Well, I also remember that this 'reknowned' doctor in Kenya carried out some 'IQ tests' on him and declared him 'not a genius' only 'exceptionally bright' to the dissapointment of a whole nation. I am not sure what tests those were but they must have been biast. That young boy was true genius.

Now, K.Karanja aka KK was another Kenyan genius/ Chess genius whom, I believe lived abroad with his father. I think they eventually adopted that Ndengwa, Njoroge N...something boy and brought him abroad to a special school to narture his brilliant mind. Last time they were in the kenyan nation newspaper (years ago) KK and the young 'Ndengwa' were in some special school abroad. Funny thing.... I had a major crash on this KK youngster, thats how I followed his story so carefully.....we were gonna get married someday....that was in the unlikely event that MJ and I did not get hitched!! Yeah, dreams of a young Dem Gal...good old days lol!!

Ohh...I remember that kid on TV that made us feel like we were seriously lacking LOL. I thought his name was Ben something :)

As for whether he was a genius or not, maybe he was. Or he could have been seriously trained and drilled with that info. I am seeing several kids like that crop up, like that kid on Jay Leno that knew all the Presidents and government leaders in American history yet she was like 4 or something.
Some kids may just be good at memorizing and retaining info.

Ben/Njoroge/Nderitu/genius kid/whatever could be a mashadite for all we know. The Genius may be amoung us.

ONE TRUE FACTOR WITH THESE GENIUS CASES IS THAT THEY DON'T GO PAST 30'S MOST OF THEM DIE AT THEIR 20'S AND THESE ARE USUALLY MYSTERIOUS DEATHS.(ACCORDING TO WORLDWIDE STATISTICS DATA).

His name was Bethwell Mbugua and he sure new his way around a heart at a tender age of 9, shrubs notwithstanding....LOL.

That doctor who claimed that Mbugua was NOT a genious surely short-changed the young kid.....I mean, most of us at 9 years old don't even know on what side of the chest the heart lies, (slaggard doesn't know to date and he is 52, what a shame)anyway, how is a kid who elaborated stuff like arteries, aorta and then some NOT be exceptional??????I smell foul play......

KK on the other hand was NOT a geniuos by any stretch, he was just a good chess player. Actually now that I think about it, I see serious media hype and his overrated status as being the main reason for his success....

I mean, unless you beat Anatoly Karpov,Gary Kasparov and the like, you are NOT even close to being a chess genious......We were just some gullible youngsters back then who thought that KK was the shyt especially after he apppeared on Habari (lol) on KBC whooping some carefully selected shagsmondos behinds in chess....

I would love to play a game against him and see how far my foot can go up his ass after the dramatic whoopass he would receive in kedo 3 minutes of chess.......

KK, are you reading this????? holla at your boy.

I dont think that these kids just rely on memorization only ...but there was another case like 2-3 months ago on CNN about this 9 or 12 yr old kid who was doing a double major masters and PhD......but like Labell said, they rarely get to their mid-thirties.

that kid wasnt a genius..he'd just undergone some thorough drilling as in like when small kids read books meant for a higher age group 5 or 6 years plus.

they tried testing him along with other smart kids..and he flopped. he was diagnosed to have 'good absorption power', and an average IQ...
