In as much as this is disgusting, we also need to look at our gals, many of them are not 'innocent', and some of these gals actively go after these men. A case of 'Lollita' gone rural. This is not unique only to Kenya, thats why we have the term "Jailbait" in the US.

In a thread I read here once, Gals had crushes for teacher so and so. Some are not even enticed by the teachers. They wait for dark and go to the teachers house themselves. Am almost certain that many of you females here experienced gals fighting over teachers in boarding school.

There is a percentage of men, whose main mistake in this saga is that they did not say no. We cannot bandy every case in the same wagon and deem them predators (though the law will describe them no other way).

The problem is complex
  • The predator man
  • The weak man
  • The economic situation A teacher is a very good catch huko shags
  • Parenting - values instilled in this girls

The society generally too(I was at a b/day party for a 10 yr old gal, in the dance competiion, they were "dippin it low" and shaking their non existent arses. The mothers were cheering them on. Am no prude, but I do know, a child takes what happens around her as normal, thus that will be 'home'.

Teaching profession is governed (or should be) by code of practice.

In US and all European countries, it is illegal (criminal offense) to have sexual relationship with a pupil under the age of 18.

Many experts argue that even consensual sexual interactions between students and teachers constitute sexual harassment. The most commonly expressed concern is over whether "mutual consent" can exist in a relationship where there is such a disparity in power between the people involved. Because of this, more and more schools are adopting policies that forbid amorous relationships between students and professors "in the instructional context" even when they are consenting

"Physical intimacy with students is not now and never has been acceptable behavior for academicians. It cannot be defended or explained away by evoking fantasies of devoted professors and sophisticated students being denied the right to 'true love.' Where power differentials exist, there can be no 'mutual consent.'" (Dzeich et al., 1990)

In Africa too we have the same age of consent law.

I have quoted almost you entire post coz what you posted is quite arguable from an academic point of view. Keep in mind that I don't condone such behaviour.

For arguments sake:

We cannot claim power differentials as a reason to argue against a consensual amorous arrangement. This reason can be blanketed even outside the student academician circle.

What of a 19 yr old intern at a big conglomerate and the 52 year old CEO. This is a mega differential in power. A 19yr old student or even 18 (many of you are turned 18 in high school during first term).

What stance do we take? Under age - Of course Not, power differentials - refer to my argument above. So exactly how does the system deal with a consensual arrangement between an 18yr old high school student and a faculty member?? (the academician can prove consent)
