Though one year ago, this loss was just too much to bear for the world of leterature and writing.

John Ruganda, he of 'The Burdens', rest in peace!

Ooh didn't about that....thanks.
Native Son you've just reminded me of my Literature in English teacher, who helped me a great deal during my class 1118J's and who also died one year ago!
There was always this question....'Who is a burden to who in the burdens?'

POle about your teacher.

Yeah, John Ruganda died almost a year ago.

I also remember the question 'Discuss the burdens as a tragedy' or somethin gto that effect.

My most favourite moments are two;
1. When Wamala comes home, he stumbles over Tinka's waragi (that she used to brew to raise her family because Wamala had got married to hsi bottle and no longer cared for his family), Tinka gets irritated and tries to grab it from him by force. He refuses. She tries to inform him that that that is her brew which she sells to take care of her children to which the husband tells her to 'hide it in hell next time.' That was a zinger.

2. After they quarrel or fight, Wamala kisses Tinka, then, as he leads her to the bedroom after switching off the lights, he asks Tink ato give him the only thing that 'works these days' to which Tinka retorts, 'the drink?'
And WAmala says 'no, the other thing.' They go to bed hand in hand.

I loved Literature. I had a wonderful teacher. Adieu Ruganda.

Grass will grow was by Jonathan Kariara to the best of my knowledge. I remember that poem.

As for the banana plantation, I think that is where Tinka lost her virginity or something.

WHo would forget Kaija and Nyakake the bedwetter? The play starts with Kaija waking up with the words; 'she has done it again..........one might think she's drunk a potful of water......first, she wets her side, then she edges closer to me and wets mine.........' to which the mother retorts 'she is only a child....'

and how about Vincent kanagonago vote valour, vote value, vote vincent?

How I miss those days!

Very true that! I concur 100%.

I actually forgot about that poem "I met a thief.."

NOw that you've mentioned it, nimekumbuka. Lit ilikuwa tamu. That life is gone.

By the way, I've been trying to read 'The govt. Inspector' (a kiswahili version) lakini siwezi. I've become lazy and Kiswahili isn't even my forte. What with the internet, magazeti and TV kila mahali. NO wonder the younger guys will never have as much knowledge as we do because of the changing times.

Lets read on bro!
