Default Worst Book Ever - 09-27-2007, 02:13 AM

What's the single worst book you've ever read and wouldn't even recommend to a dreaded enemy.

Mine was some book called 'The Other'. Lame book about some twins, one of whom died, one of whom is in a psych ward, full of mbinu rejeshi that keeps you wondering what's going on. I got to the end but it gave me a headache.

I usually take my time to decide which book to buy and before i never used to read reviews because i thought they conditioned my mind even before i read the book. Anyway the worst book i have read is Reading the Ceiling by Dayo Forster born in Gambia (I'll tell you why later) . Its one of the very few books in my life that i have been unable to complete. It was a waste of my good money I should have used that 20 euros to buy some shoes on sale

I had set out to read books by African writers this summer and this one just totally disappointed me.

Has anyone read Ngugi wa Thiongos recent book? I'm a bit reluctant to buy the book because i don't want to be bombarded with worn out political rhetoric Opinions anyone?

Though Shakespeare is intriguing when it comes to his usage of metophores
myths,language..name it all.Gotta say Macbeth was such a bore OMG!Not forgetting Charles D's A tale of two Cities..never went past the first two chapters..that just goes to say how much i enjoyed it.Then there is the Alchemist.. fell for the hype, and went ahead and read it.Boy was i dissapointed!Sorry to you Paul Cohelo fans out there but the book just bored the hell out of me.

WHAT!!!!!!!!! the alchemist is amzing. Maybe b/c of what i was goin thru when i read it but i love coehlo's works. I cant remember the worst book of all time but the worst i picked up recently was Ben Okri the english patient. I read about 100pgs and still could not figure out who was who , why and it was boring. Anyway...whoever asked about ngugi..go ahead and buy it even tho u don't like politics. It may discuss some politics but thats not the story line. He's a good writer..and his books arent expensive and are in most libraries so pick one up and if u don't like it rudisha.

^^^Cld be coz am not rly into magical realism or what u might call it...don know..There was just lots of religious/philosphical idealism thru' Out the entire book (Alchemist), which i personally found to be a lil overboard and quite a bore.I didnt find it that deep or life altering at all like it is depicted to be..Most def over rated.Well.. my opinion...Most p'ple who've read it seem to have loved it.
