Ben Okri is one of the most profound writers, then again, he is only following in a traditionn set out by two worlds...Amos Tutuola's style in the Palmwine Drunkard combines well with magic realism straight from South America, like 100 years of solitude by Marquez.
The famished Road is interesting in its esotericism and excentrism. Following the life of an Abiku is the most confusing path. One might suppose that Azaro is the only abiku in the world, until one meets Madame Koto or even that friend of his with the metal wheel who had lived for many centuries.
An interesting but difficult read, but in the end, gratifying. I especially admire how Azaro's father fights poverty...one could go on forever.
