Are there any Kenyan poets in Baltimore who read their work at Cafe Jolie in Owings Mills, Md? I'd like to know how many Kenyans fika open-mics, cos over here in Buffalo, NY very few Africans showcase their poetry.

I'm told on July 30, there will be an open mic from 8:30 - 10:30. The co-founder of the Cafe Jolie open Mic, Tulani will be holding a talk about Farenheit 9/11. There is a supposed to be a creative writing workshop sometime soon. For details write to: poetprosecollect@yahoo.com

Spoken poetry is of the hook. I wish I was able to attend. Unfortunately, the only spoken poetry I have been able to enjoy is Def Poetry on HBO.

I will definetly check that place out some other time. Thanks for the info

if you hve HBO, there's a "def poetry jam" on sundays at 11 PM. the new series begins aug 8th. i love spoken word, and i used to go to clubs in DC-near the navy yard, and on U-street . it was a super change from the meat market scene. conversation level music, intellectual conversations, polite guys, girls and in between. COOL!
