Default Please help... used cars in Kenya - 10-05-2007, 04:34 AM

Right peeps. I recently read through a thread where someone recommends buying a used Japanese car when you travel back to Kenya rather than renting one. Can somebody in the know please guide me on where to start on this one? I'm planning to go back in the new year for about 6 weeks and I feel buying a used car would be more cost effective than renting one for such a long time. I'll have so much to do, I can't really get away with borrowing... At least nikinunua I'll not worry about returning it in pristine shape too... Please, please help!

Depends on whether you want to import one or go buy there from the numerous car yards around nairobi. If you want to import one, then this is the time to order for one from japan so that by dec the car is in nairobi. Takes about 45 days to import a car from japan to mombasa port, and a week or so to clear it.

What are the differences in price, for example, if I were to import a car from Japan to Kenya and cleared it and buying from a yard. Would it be worth my while importing, or just buying a ready imported one?

listen you are coming for 6 months what you said was right buying a car helps in certain conditions. buying a car from japan is even much cheaper than geting one that is already in the car yards in Nairobi so try to organise it before you come coz it takes a month from Japan.

Do you know of any trusted companies that we can nego business with.
I noticed that some of them do not take credit cards, only wired money transfers.
