the Kamba theory hold more sway among historians because early english texts and even now german texts spell "kenia". the spelling "kenya" appears in 1930s in IBEACo records and its origin is still mysterious.

it is a stretch to imagine the mbeere name, or even the kikuyu compound name "kiri nyaga" could have given rise to "kenya" to a british whose mothertongue has no dipthong sounds. Doktor Krapf musta picked it from his kamba porters, his closest companions then

did you know the first name for embu town was "isaak walton" after the charming inn and that eccentric jewish-american hotelier?

what possessed the brits to put an admin outpost there still confounds todate.
