The safari we took with mountsafaris adventure
www.mountsafaris.com was quite simply amazing. The Nairobi staff were very accommodating in assisting/guiding us in exploring all options for game parks, transportation, lodging, etc. - and even accommodating a change in our reservation after our arrival to Kenya. They were very courteous, more than friendly and extremely helpful.
As regards the actual safari, the best indicator was when my wife and son both told me that our trip to Masai Mara was the high point of the best vacation they had ever had - and believe me, we have lived overseas for quite a number of years, and have vacationed in many different and interesting places! Our guide and expert driver, daniel, was not only knowledgeable about the game park, the animals and the Masai people, but he took the time to give us a brief history of the east Africa region, Kenya, and the various tribes, languages and cultures there. This made the otherwise somewhat long and dusty trip from Nairobi to the Masai park seem like a fun drive in the countryside.
The best part of the trip was, however, roaming around the park, searching for the big 5 (we saw all 5 by the middle of day 2) and other animals and sights. This was great for the simple fact that daniel aimed to please - and with a 7-year-old, there is alot of pleasing to be had. daniel made it a point to track, spot and get on the radio to get us in the action. When we weren't watching and learning about the animals, we were en route to the next adventure. Our guide even took the time late one evening to take us back to the Masai village we had visited earlier the second day, so that we may talk and trade a bit more with the villagers (who, by the way, were very friendly, open and alot of fun to speak and bargain with, though they do drive a hard bargain as the saying goes. I cannot say enough good things about the safari and our guide. In fact, after spending three days in constant contact with Daniel, we indeed consider him a friend.
Lastly, I would remark that the accommodation at the lodge was also quite nice. The room was spacious and clean, and the food was the best buffet style we have ever eaten. The service was also extraordinary (in that distinctly wonderful African style, of course). They really know how to take care of the guests, with waiters galore (and seemingly there only when you need them) and chefs ready to cater to one's fancy.
In sum, I think we are going to have to make a tough decision for our next vacation. Do we go to one of the other 180 countries around the world, or do we go back on Kenya safari? For children and adults alike, it was a great time.
Simon.
