Default affordable safari - 05-05-2005, 08:22 AM

I finally want to do something special for me and a friend and go on a safari, somewhere like mara or samburu and then the coast. Can anyone share their experiences of such tours, how much have they cost? I know the prizes quoted on the sites aren't real coz then no kenyan would afford it....so please share...i really want to see what my country has to offer...and support the industry....but also get a good deal and good time.

cheapest bet, go on a camping safari. There are several outfitters who do these and many cater to local tourists rather than Westerners. I think you can get a pretty luxurious deal for perhaps 3-5 days for Ksh. 15,000 to 20,000 per person all inclusive.
You're right stuff on the internet caters to foreign tourists however many sites have an e-mail address where you can inquire on resident rates and packages.

DAMN,
$1,800 is too expensive, why lie. Maybe they gave you the rates of a foreigner planning to tour KENYA.

Its quite affordable to do a safari to the places you have mentioned. i assume you live in kenya, right?
well, the best way to do it is to have a camping safari..believe it or not it costs less then 9K PP for like a 3 days , 2 nites safari to places like Mara, Samburu, Tsavo ,Amboseli, Coasto and even Serengeti. this figure caters for transport(in overland trucks),food(menu provided),camping tents, park entry fee and ground fee. all you have to pay for your drinks. over easter we did one to Samburu for 6500 PP for the whole Easter weekend.i feel its quite worth your money.
i have a year-round itenary for such excursions and if you keen on it, hit my mailbox

Hi,
Your post sounded interesting do you still have that itinerary handy? Do you think such a safari would be good for all ages? Which travel company did you use? Please let me know at wathoni@blackplanet.com

most kenyans at home and walio ulamini are soo ignorant about safaris and their charges.I think you need to get a low-season budget safari to start with and see how it goes. But if your safari is for hunting junges i would recomend high-season would be okay.
