In what has come to baffle all wildlife enthusiasts, managers and experts alike worlwide, wonder lioness christened Kamuniak (meaning the blessed one in the local Samburu) has yet adopted another baby oryx for the third time in as many months. The first case was reported in January but the oryx was mauled by a hungry lion. The second happened on Valentine's day. This time the calf was"kidnapped" by the wardens and taken for safe-custody to rescue it from hunger(Kamuniak was reportedly seen in a mourning mood after) and this time around it happened on Easter.
Various theories have been advanced as to the real reason why this could be happening: One, the Liones may have been ostracised from it's community or pride and thus felt lonely and therefore needed companionship. This may explain why it had to seek the oryxes. Secondly, the lioness didn't have cubs of it's own and hence had to adapt another animal to compensate. But if this is true then why couldn't it have adopted cubs of other lionesses? Why this bizzare relationship with a member remotely linked to it's own species and interestingly, a prey? As Kamuniak settles with her third "cub" the wardens at Samburu and the world at large will be keeping a close watch and see how nature takes it's couse this time around. hmmm...the worldth eighth wonder maybe?
