Cow hide goes very well in palm-nut soup and banku. I think I found bush meat strange cos i didn't know what was wallowing in my soup bowl. I asked an uncle and he told to enjoy the meal.

She kept on taunting me, saying that my mother has spoiled me, so ate it anyhow. Wasn't so bad, but snails are not for me. http://www.alwaysfreshfish.com/escargot55.jpg Kohcoh, did u ever try grass-cutter meat? They call it 'akrantie'. Deer meat is a delicacy also especially during Aboakyir festival/ deer-hunting season. http://69.41.227.74/GHP/img/pics/24684317.jpg Another strange thing I saw in a soup bowl was pig feet. I was like WTF! This animal walks everywhere. http://69.41.227.74/GHP/img/pics/news/97795120.full.jpg When u go to Makola or Agbobloshie markets in the heart of Accra, u r may come across: http://69.41.227.74/GHP/img/pics/news/51230208.full.jpg Smoked bush meat below...Don't throw up pliz!!! http://69.41.227.74/GHP/img/pics/news/61621578.full.jpg |

Dont know about cow hide, but remember being shocked about feet be it cow, pig in the Caribbean some years ago. They had pig ears too for sale and some brain (dont know what animal) at some local supermarket... Later on I learned the above are also delicacies in most parts of West Africa.
Anyone been to Thailand? They eat anything that crawls, moves down there. I have seen some of the strangest things on sale at their local markets. Fruits included. They even have stinky fruit down there called Dorian (sp). This fruit can also be found in other parts of Asia. Smells like a wet soiled diaper. Being a constant visitor to Thailand, and various parts of Asia, I stick to fish, seafood only, as for the fish I need to see the head. I am not that adventurous when it comes to food. A program comes to mind that I watched a few months ago on Discovery or National Geographic channel called inedible delicacies (most of them from Asia) that left my stomach churning. The most absurd one was a very expensive delicacy of some tribe in China i.e. soup made from sheep or goat embryo which they perceive as the ultimate source for the essence of life. Maybe thats why you hardly hear of hunger in Asia as almost everything is edible. Then ofcourse the highly poisonous blowfish the Japanese call "fugu" which eating it is just an experience in itself. Gday mate!! |

This is not something i've eaten ... but when i lived in Hawaii they had Frog legs and thighs in the grocery store, they were very nicely packed just like any of the other meats and what's worse they were usually in between the chicken and the seafood ..errrk. They even have a couple of frog restaurants out there, and they even have photos of the dishes (just like in chinese restaurants)displayed on the window, with the prices, side dishes and all that. - Also due to the high population of filipinos on the Island there were rumours of how they eat dogs (adobo they called it), i don't know how true this is but one thing you will notice is that they(filipinos)rarely ,if ever, own any dogs. |
