I want my Kids to grow up here but..... -
03-14-2003, 12:16 PM
Im thinking of having a family...yah, with kids and all. But mazee the way we grew up compared to this unbelievably comlicated counrty...its so different. There's only so much influence I can 'osmosis' onto them but when they interact with eventually interact with 'america' they will become...yah. And Im not sure I want them to become...you know? You see what Im saying? If you r daft, maybe not. So should i raise my family here? Or wait until i can go back home and do it? What ya'll thinketh?

..ok so u thinking of having kids...that's nice and u're thinking ahead about the kind of environment u want ur kidos to grow up in, That's equally good. My opinion is, (and i'm no expert, obviously) is that no matter the environment, u can have ur kidos nurtured to be good citizens. All u have to do as parent is to be there for them, commit urself fully in the raising of the kidos. See times have changed. Every part of the world, has practically adjusted themselves to the western culture. So i would ask myself, "what difference does it make, (and i'm talking a really big difference), is it raising a kid in kenya as compared to the U.S"?..none really...

makes a big difference where your kids grow up, but the final decision lies with you. I think growing up in Kenya has really made me a well-rounded person. There is no experience better than the one we have back home. At the same time, kids growing in the west, particularly states, have mingi economic opportunities that many kenyans do not.

...siko, ok maybe your right , that u having grown up in Kenya made u a good person, but see that's a generalized opinion. Ok take for example, there are places in Kenya where it's unbearable to raise your kids in e.g Mathare, as it is the same with places in the U.S e.g the Bronx in N.Y. Similarly, some places in Kenya are liveable, to the point where kids can be well raised e.g Outskirts of Nairobi, again, as it is in the U.S.
...Thus, my reason for saying that it really doesn't matter is that which is above. Twenty years ago i presume, environment would have been a number one issue. But today, places have changed and traditions, as in culture, have been disregarded. All a parent has to do is be there for their kids and just teach them the differences between right and wrong, among other things.

Environment doesn't really matter. Look at Indians and Jews: They've managed to raise their kids in their culture, upholding their traditions and religious beliefs wherever they are in the World. Your kids will grow up to be the pple that you nurture them to be.

I understand that you...you know? But if you put your ideas across like...yah, then the is a big chance that your kids will still...you know, grow up to be....yah? ....maze. So first thing, change the way you....,yah, and then maze think about the whole...you know....Yah. That is what I, yah, thinketh.
Hmmmm?

ur kids can live and grow in america but it aslo depends on how you bring them up. you can keep your african side of it and make them aware that they should always be proud.so it's like nurture verses nature.im planning on that too im actual thinking of teaching them swa and kyuk. even if it's going to be hard
