I can safely tell you that if you want to I can hook you up with Japanese friends that speak swahili pera pera. Most having lived in kenya for years. They will probably take you out to Roppongi and make you go crazy.

Anyway lemme know
I don't know if you'll have the time but try heng out at the PIGA PIGA Club. You should meet alot of Africans mostly Kenyans.

Open: 6pm-1am (Mo-Th), 6pm-3am (Fr-Sa).
Closed on Sundays.

SMT Ebisu Bldg. B2
1-8-1 Ebisu Minami, Shibuya-ku
Tel. 3715-3431

One week is too short though. ... but with the living conditions in Japan , one week feels like a month.

@Sarin, word up!

I remember hanging out at Piga Piga with buddies..a very
neat, tiny and pricy club run by Mr.Kobayashi,a very tall
swahili speaking jamaa.

It's one of the few clubs playing live African music,
offering African food and drinks akina Tusker.

Ivory Band was the resident band back then playing rhumba,
lingala and some Japanese tunes.Very friendly people from
Zaire,Kenya(Mombasa) and Nigeria.

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately, I went to Roppongi and that club is no longer open. There are very few blacks in Tokyo and I would have loved to talk to a few especially Kenyans to hear how they can survive in that cramped tension-filled place. It's a beautiful place, not just a place for me to live. I have lived in TX for the last 15 years so you can imagine what it was like coming from here to Tokyo.
