Well, for one thing the people there speak Spanish...

But on a serious note I've also been qutie keen one day to go to Spain and sample that rich culture from matadors to bullfighters to the carnivals and all.... perhaps in a few years fate will be good to me...

If I were you, I would not touch Spain with a long pole. The Spanish are among the most blatantly racist people in Europe, especially against Africans. Right now, as I am typing this, Spain is erecting an electronic fence to keep 'starving Africans' from crossing the narrow strait of water that separates Spain from morocco.

They will insult you on the street and you can do absolutely nothing about it (unlike in the UK or Germany) where this kind of behaviour is not condoned.

In addition to that, the unemployment rate in spain is 17% (officially); its actually much higher. So they will see you as coming to take over the scarce jobs that are available (they don't care whether you are a tourist). To them, an African is a beggar, an illegal immigrant etc. They conveniently forget that miilions of Spaniards are doing catering jobs (waiters, porters and kitchen boys) in the UK and farming jobs in Germany.

We are here, we know everything!

Spain is a poor country - don't let them impress you with their bravado. Without their tourist industry they would be as dead as the dodo.

----

Personally (repeat personally) given the choice of living either in Kenya or Spain, I will choose Kenya over and over again.

But as they say, experience is the best teacher; so if you want to visit Spain, haul yourself over there and give us the feedback.

The matadors (and their tight pants) are just about the most exciting sights in spain, I think
