Default The origin of the word picnic - 01-30-2002, 10:03 AM

Picnic is one word that was introduced to the english language in mordern civilisation.

Its origin?.....Pick A Nigger

How was this possible? The white folk would have lunch outside (which is now known as a picnic) where they would discuss on who would be lynched that day for going against the "masters law".

This was after the slave lifestyle had been abolished and the south was undergoing reconstruction. The lynching was used as a way of controlling the now freed slaves.

This is how the phrase pick a nigger ended up as picnic.

Pick a nigger -> pick a nigg -> pick a nic (southern accent took over) -> picnic

And thats countryBoys believe it or not. wachana na Ripleys

Now I remember it is an urban legend that did the rounds via email. I came across this twice.

Once as an a public warning to everyone: here is the link
http://www.snopes2.com/language/offense/picnic.htm

And another time it formed part of the script of some white hate mail: I have cut pasted that below:

This e-mail comes to you as a public service announcement and as information in the form of a little known Nigger History Lie. This information is in the Nigger Archives at the NAACP Africoon Lies.

Although not taught in American learning institutions and literature, it is in most nigger history professional circles and literature that the origin of the term "picnic" derives from the acts of lynching niggers. The word "picnic" is rooted from the whole theme of "Pick A Nigger". This is where individuals would "pic" a subape coon to lynch and make this into a family gathering. There would be music and a "picnic". ("Nic" being the white acronym for "nigger"). Scenes of this were in the movie "Rosewood". Niggers should choose to use the word "barbecue" or "outing" instead of the word "picnic".

Please forward this e-mail to all of your family and friends and let us educate our people.

Thank you wakili for the info ....but thats not where i got it from.
My History lecturer was a black dude and had a thing about the reconstruction of the south. After having a few words with him he told me about the word picnic and much more about the "No Sanctuary" stuff (which i will look for the webiste and post it up here).

I find what u have posted interesting and i will approach him with it. I have been lookin for something like this to research more on the word.
