Damn Boy, I must admit you made me laugh lakini UWONGO UWONGO....ati a Black Prof told you? Those types of people can take any word in the dictionary and turn it round just to get back at "the Man". I woudnt believe it if I were you, but if he asks it in a test, give him the answer he gave you!!!!!!

Picnic was borrowed from French piquenique, a word which seems to have originated around the end of the 17th century. It is not clear where it came from, but one theory is that it was based on the verb piquer `pick, peck' (source of English pick), with the rhyming nique perhaps added in half reminiscence of the obsolete nique `trifle.' Originally the word denoted a sort of party to which everyone brought along some food; the notion of an `outdoor meal' did not emerge until the 19th century.

PLEASE DONT POST SOMETHING IF YOU NOT SURE OF ITS ORIGINS.

I heard the same on a black radio station around here...if true why isn't the word banned?
In our local museum we have the postcards of white families barbequing and looking at the body of two burnt up bodies of black naked men hanging from a tree. The 'picked negroes' would be hanged and the white families would have picnics around the hanged bodies showing their kids. It is so horrible and the tour guide person talked about the picnic bit.
Things like this make a good case for reparations.

i will look for more info on the site and post it
i still feel there is some truth behind it..if not the words origin then at least it was either adopted or used in connection with the hangings.
