It's not scape-goatish at all. I agree with you 100%. The information we have on humanity and the human experience is enough to get us by, mind, body and spirit.
Whereas I am not saying philosophical enquiry should cease, if you get to a place where you realize you indeed don't have the answers, I see no problem with us accepting that we can't answer it and accepting and appreciating that which we do have.
E.g. Yes, I believe we cannot fully understand God -otherwise why so many denominations and sub-sections within the faith-however, it doesn't matter which school of thought or spirituality you come from there are some principles that have always applied e.g. love, loyalty, honesty, integrity etc etc
Perhaps rather than wasting our lives staring into the stars and trying to conquer understanding of a divine being above us in so many ways, we should look around and appreciate all the beauty and wonder that's all around us (I feel rather poetic today)
