I remember passing through a lot of villages in Kenya where houses were run-down and dilapidated, schools were falling apart, dispensaries and mortuary facilities were non-existent and fire departments were unheard of.

But in those same villages I saw grand opulent Churches that stuck out of the landscape like sore thumbs with their stained windows and beautiful gardens. I wondered why locals would spend so much of their resources for a building that was used 1 day a week while neglecting every other aspect of their life.
