Some 32 people suspected to be members of the outlawed Mungiki sect were arrested in Naivasha.
Police also found weapons and paraphernalia suspected to have been used in an oathing ceremony.
The items recovered from the suspects on Tuesday night included swords, clubs, pangas, snuff boxes, tobacco snuff and a fly whisk.
An exercise book containing members’ contribution fees and a list of names of members and a pamphlet depicting the origins of Mungiki was among the items.
Divisional police commander Willy Lugusa said the 32 were rounded up from their hideout after police received a tip-off.
“Police arrested the suspects as they held a meeting in two houses,” he said.
Oathing ceremony
The public alerted police on patrol that suspicious-looking people were in one of the estates and staged a raid. The men were said to aged below 35 years.
Mr Lugusa said investigations were going on to establish why the men were carrying weapons.
“We are still piecing together intelligence reports to establish whether the suspects were taking part in an oathing ceremony,” said the officer.
