Basically atleast five principles were used to guide on the recognition and colloction of truely divinely inspired books
1. Was the book written by a prophet of God? If it was written by a spokesman for God, then it was the Word of God.
2. Was the writer confirmed by acts of God? frequenty miracles seperated the true prophets from false ones.
Moses, Elijah .....all the way through the book of Acts
3. Did the message tell the truth about God? Since God can not contradict Himself neither can he utter false claims .......hence no book with false claims can be the Word of God.
4. Does it come with the power of God? Since the early Christians (even today) strongly believed the Word of God to be LIVING and ACTIVE, and consequently ougth to have a TRANSFORMING force for edification and evngelism. If the message of a book didnt effect or didnt have power to change a life ...then God was not behind it.
5. Was it already accepted by the people of God? eg Peter acknowledges paul's writtings, The Thessalonians accepting Paul's....etc
